We are honored to share that Lillian’s Southern Box Catering will be providing the culinary experience for two powerful civic moments in Washington, DC next week.

✨ Mayoral Candidate Forum – April 28 at UDC
✨ Congressional Candidate Forum – April 30 at THEARC

These forums, led by the Council for Court Excellence and community partners, are centered on the future of public safety, justice, and equity in our city—issues that are deeply aligned with our mission and lived experience.

As a founder and as a business rooted in community impact, second chances, and food justice, this opportunity is meaningful. We are not just showing up as a caterer—we are showing up as part of the ecosystem helping to shape what justice and opportunity look like in DC.

Our team will be curating an elevated Southern-inspired reception, bringing flavor, intention, and excellence to spaces where important conversations are happening.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve, to represent, and to stand in rooms where change is being imagined and built. Registration via the QR Code on the flyer.

Today, I proudly submitted written testimony to the DC Council in support of the Ensuring Access & Supporting Engagement (EASE) for DOC Residents Act of 2025.

As the Founder of Lillian’s Southern Box Catering, my work has always been rooted in more than food—it is rooted in dignity, access, and community. The same values that guide how we serve meals also guide how we show up for justice.

Right now, residents in DC Jail residents are excluded from participating in DC Council hearings on policies that directly impact their lives and the communities they will return to. That is not just a gap in process—it is a gap in democracy.

The EASE Act changes that.

This legislation ensures that incarcerated residents have the right to:
✔️ Testify virtually before the DC Council
✔️ Access technology and internet to engage civically
✔️ Communicate with their Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners
✔️ Submit written testimony without financial barriers
✔️ Participate in a system that values transparency and accountability

This is about more than policy.
This is about ensuring that constitutional rights do not end at the prison gate.

It is also about equity. In a city where 88% of those incarcerated are Black, this bill is a critical step toward addressing systemic exclusion and advancing racial justice in our local democracy.

At Lillian’s Southern Box Catering, we believe in creating spaces—through food and through advocacy—where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Today, I used my voice so others can have theirs.

I urge the DC Council to pass the EASE Act without delay. The time to ensure access, elevate voices, and strengthen our democracy is now.

Standing in Excellence Among Visionary Leaders💐

I am incredibly proud to congratulate the six Black-owned businesses recognized by RBIJ for advancing justice and opportunity.

To be included among these amazing, purpose-driven businesses is both humbling and affirming.

Each of us represents a different industry — but we share a common commitment: creating pathways for justice-impacted individuals, expanding access to employment, and building economic mobility in communities that have historically been overlooked.

And for Lillian’s Southern Box Catering to be highlighted for the second year in a row means so much to me.

This recognition is not just about elevated Southern cuisine. It is about:
• Food justice
• Workforce advancement
• Record sealing advocacy
• Public health
• Economic dignity

It is about proving that businesses can be profitable and principled can serve beautiful meals and serve community transformation at the same time.

To stand alongside these leaders — builders, reformers, employers, visionaries — is an honor I carry with gratitude and responsibility.

We are not just running businesses.
We are reshaping systems.

Thank you, RBIJ, for recognizing purpose-driven entrepreneurship.

Year two. Still building. Still advocating. Still believing.

With love in the details,
Founder, Lillian’s Southern Box Catering

Happy Blessed Friday Everyone💐

On February 4, 2026, I had the honor of providing testimony before the DC Council Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety on the conditions of food and nutrition at the DC Jail (DOC).

As the Founder of Lillian’s Southern Box Catering, a public health professional, inclusive employer and a member of the DC Jail Food Working Group, business partner with , Second Chance Hiring Alliance and I spoke to the urgent need to treat food as a matter of dignity, health, and public responsibility—not simply cost containment.

Inadequate nutrition in the DC Jail is not a minor issue. It is a public health failure with long-term consequences for individual well-being, community health, and successful reentry. I called for meaningful partnerships with local, mission-driven food businesses that can deliver food that heals, nourishes, and restores dignity.

I am committed to using my voice, lived experience, and professional expertise to advocate for systems that honor humanity, strengthen communities, and hold public institutions accountable. Thank you Daniel Rosen with the Coalition for Carceral Nutrition. I am genuinely inspired by your dedication to advancing equitable and nutrition forward food systems with carceral environments. I value your perspective and looking forward to continued collaboration.

✨ Food is justice. Nutrition is care. Accountability matters. ✨
