This Sunday, local favorite Amanda Standalone is bringing two incredibly talented musician friends to Crosby — and they’ll be here for ONE DAY ONLY. Lucky for us, they’ve offered to spend part of it playing a FREE show in The Vault!

It’s Heritage Days in Crosby, so it feels like the perfect time to reintroduce you to Miner 51—our mascot, one of our flagship beers, and a nod to the history beneath our feet.

The Cuyuna Iron Range was home to a thriving mining industry from the early 1900s through the early 1980s, producing manganese-rich iron ore that played an important role in steel production during both World Wars. The range was named for Cuyler Adams and his dog, Una—Cuy + Una = Cuyuna.

Today, the former mining landscape is the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. Mine overburden created the hills we bike, hike and snowshoe, while flooded open pits became the remarkably clear lakes we enjoy today.

When we renovated our building, we found an old mining tag in the basement stamped 51. That little piece of local history inspired the name Miner 51—both our Adam Turman -designed mascot and our smooth, crisp, easy-drinking light lager.

A little history. A little mystery from our own basement. And a whole lot of Cuyuna. ⛏️🍺
