Sentimental Saturday (a longer post to reflect back): It was 15 years ago this week that we closed on the farm. Some fun facts:
🏀⚾️Religion and Sports.... Did you know the owners before us included BJ Armstrong who played in the NBA including for the Chicago Bulls in the 90s with Michael Jordan!
The Grob family for generations owned and farmed the land including 1956 MLB player Connie Grob (He also started Connie's Home Plate). Connie's nephew is Archbishop Jeffrey Grob in Milwaukee. He's returned to visit a couple of times and we love hearing his farm stories including serving "communion" from the old farmhouse porch when he was little.
🎉2011: We purchased the farm with another couple (Chris' great friend from high school) and spent 2 years getting it ready.
👩‍❤️‍👨2011 we also got married (July)
🌲 2012: First round of Christmas trees were planted.
🤰 2013: Early September the love of our lives, Julia, joined our family. 🌻 Mid-September we opened for our first Fall Fun season. We all drove separate that season to the farm so it'd look like there was more than just 1 or 2 vehicles in our parking area) ha ha.
On a side note: I don't recommend giving birth 2 weeks prior to opening day but that's just my opinion. ;)
Then by Nov 1st (so our daughter was not quite 2 months old) Chris went up north to wholesale Christmas trees. He did that every year until our trees at the farm were ready to sell in 2019.
🌲 2019: We opened for first Christmas Tree season.
📌 2021: We bought our partner's shares since they didn't live locally and he had his wholesaling business that kept expanding AND they own Tree City retail lot in Madison in front of Vitense golfland. They're busy folks including over the years still sheering our trees here and harvesting our precut trees.
🚗🏡. Did you know that from time of purchase in 2011 to Oct 2024, we didn't live onsite? We lived in a small condo in Madison then a house nearby. The old farmhouse did not have a functioning well or septic and wasn't in best of shape, so we used it as storage and built new in 2024. For 13 years we drove back and forth including packing up our toddler, then grade schooler to keep her busy while we worked. Those were some long days for our kiddo when it was rainy, cold, etc. as she sat in a cold barn serving hot cocoa/running gift shop (she's better at technology than her dad ;) ) or rainy days in the grain bin admissions station doing homework.

🥰 What we absolutely love the most and makes it all worthwhile is having created a farm we love seeing all of you enjoy each fall and tree season! We LOVE seeing returning faces excited on day 1 that we're reopening and telling us about how long they've been waiting, new faces giving us a shot, the Christmas memories made, our team members who have become friends. We hope folks feel like this is 'their neighborhood farm' since all of you are a part of our history (and future) as well!

We only have 2 older girls in this coop and weren’t sure how they’d take to the new chicks but so far they seem to coexist well.

Chicken dust baths are not only like a spa day but also important for fighting mites and moisture and socializing. We think it’s fun to watch them.

WELL 2026 we're testing out our 1st ever PAWS & PUMPKINS DATES! Dogs* 🐶 will be allowed on 2 dates only. Similar to pools allowing dogs on their last day open to swim- we're opening the gates to dogs on our last weekend open! Bonus: One of the dates is Halloween! 🧙‍♀️

📆DATES: October 31st and November 1st. 9am-6pm (last admission 5pm).

We're lucky to be safe! Items can be repaired, replaced, etc. Poor Patches lost his head though.
Goats were out roaming around this morning since fencing blew down.
Hay Bale hoist was rolled around and has damage including the roof coming off it.
Playground equipment tossed together like soup with some being a complete loss.
Giant slides blew over at bottom- these slides are already pretty heavy but before bad weather we place very heavy items on top of them which we did last night too, so the fact that all 3 blew this much with those items on top shows how bad the winds were (not that anybody needed proof) ;) (plus there's the fact that heavy wagons and playground equipment were tossed all over).
Our power was out until noon.
Hoping the forecast for today simmers down and ends up being uneventful for all!
Hope all of you survived the storms with little to no damage.
