It's breakfast time! While the cows got a head start, Jake won't be beat to the barn for breakfast! Jake, the rambunctious running shire, loves to run especially if some feed is on the other side. Meanwhile, the other horses are taking their sweet time.

Jake doesn't mess around when he knows he is getting dinner. Meanwhile, Stu, an ex racehorse, will come down at the slowest possible pace. Jake goes everywhere with enthusiasm, especially if he thinks there might be food involved. His thundering hooves announce his arrival long before you actually see him coming.

This is why farm life is a great life for kids. It instills responsibility, work ethic, and when possible a little bit of fun. Wes and I headed out to bury the underground electric wire for the new electric fence at each of the new gate entrances. But we had a little fun along the way on the track loader.

For the 1st time since we moved to the new farm in Tennessee, we are finally getting to some fencing projects. We are dividing a 20 acre field into smaller pastures so we can actually start rotational grazing. Jake as always, is there to help and frisk us for treats.

Ooo! I think it's time to enter Jake, the Shire gelding, into his 1st parade! We can try leading him in this one and if that goes well, riding then eventually driving!

Farm mornings don’t always go as planned… and today was one for the books 🤦‍♀️😂

Can you tell that Jake (our food-loving Shire gelding) takes breakfast very seriously? This morning, while I was peacefully milking Bessie, I made the rookie mistake of leaving the gate open since she was the only one waiting.

About 10 minutes in, here comes Jake—just casually strolling into the barn like he owns the place—checking every single stall for snacks before settling into his own like, “Yes, this will do.”

Right on cue, Lizzie follows him in… but being the mare she is, she had to throw some serious attitude at poor Bessie (who was minding her business mid-milking in the aisle). One well-placed side eye later, and Bessie decided she’d had enough—bolting out of the barn with the milker still attached 😳

So there I am… chasing a cow, retrieving a milker, and accepting the fact that today’s milk is officially a loss. Meanwhile, everyone else enjoyed their unscheduled breakfast buffet 🐴🐄

Eventually, order was restored and milking was finished—but not without a little farm chaos to keep things interesting.

Never a dull moment around here 🤍

Usually the horses are only called in for dinner, but lately Jake has discovered that I also milk the cows in the morning. Since I was out late working on weddings he didn't get his dinner, so he requested breakfast this morning. All of the horses know their stalls and will walk right in the barn from the field. However, this morning Jake couldn't resist stopping at the cow feed trough (where I milk in the aisle) to see if there was any leftover alfalfa before heading to his stall.

Always such a lovely handsome fellow.

Jake, the Shire, got to help with a local couple's "Save the Date" pictures. The soon to be groom dressed as a knight along with his princess. Jake was the perfect gentleman as the knight's noble steed. As always, Jake, is a fabulous ambassador to the wonderful Shire breed.
