Happy World Cider Day! š
With the 250th anniversary of our country happening this year, we figured World Cider Day was the perfect excuse to share some fun facts about ciderās role in colonial times. A few sips of lesser-known history:
š The average colonial New Englanderāmen, women, and even childrenādrank an estimated 35 gallons of cider a year. Water was risky, so cider was the safer everyday beverage.
š John Adams started nearly every morning with a tankard of hard cider and kept the habit well into his 80s.
š Apple orchards spread fast partly because planting trees helped settlers claim landāand most of those apples werenāt for eating, they were for the cider press.
Pictured above is Jonathan Kruk, the Hudson Valley master storyteller, who stopped by our orchard last year to see what makes this place so special. Heāll be bringing colonial and Revolutionary history to life all throughout this big Rev 250 yearāgo check out his work!
