This Christmas marks our eighth—and final—holiday here at Hidden View Stables. As we prepare for an exciting new chapter, we want to take a moment to reflect on all the memories made here.

To everyone who has shared in this journey with us, thank you! The hard lessons learned, the solid friendships formed, and the countless special moments will always hold a place in our hearts.

While we are moving on to the most exciting new chapter, we wish nothing but the best for all of you reading this. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and cheers to new beginnings for all of us!

With gratitude and so much love,

The concept of telling horse owners they can’t massage their own horse is IN.SANE.

That 150 pound woman can rub her kid or her husband’s back but she can’t massage her 1000 pound horse without full knowledge of the anatomy because she might injure it?

That’s bananas. 🍌

I see it way too often on comment threads.

Professionals may achieve more because they are trained in several different techniques, but telling a horse owner they will injure their horse for using their hands on their horse is just bologna.

Regular touch is so good for the nervous system. Encourage it.

🤚🏻Regulates fear and stress
🤚🏻Elicits safety signals in the nervous system
🤚🏻Decreases stress response
🤚🏻Decreases blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate
🤚🏻Increases oxytocin release

For the love of Pete if you’re a horse owner please massage your horse with your hands.

It feels more manageable if you pick one body part a day.

Today rub their neck for 5 minutes.
On another day do their back.
Next week focus on their butt.

There are lots of cool grooming tools out there that do great things for fascia and blood flow as well.

On average horses drink 7-10 gallons of water a day and this remains as important in cold weather as it is in the summer because reduced water intake can lead to gastrointestinal problems such as the dreaded impaction colic.

Studies demonstrate that horses will drink more if provided access to heated water and that most water consumption happens within three hours of feeding. How can you use this information to your advantage? Refill buckets at feed time with warm water to maximize your horse’s water intake—especially in the winter when water is more likely to be freezing or close to freezing.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to learn more about preventing colic in your horse, your equine veterinarian remains your best source of information!
