Bittersweet ...but the day has come.
The final harvest of tomatoes for the 2026 season.
❤️ The weatherman tells me we are gonna freeze tomorrow night.

I went pumpkin harvesting/picking today with some amazing Master Gardener buddies at the Upper Mountain research station. Happy to volunteer time for someone to get their study on for their PhD.
It's really fascinating how detailed they get. Drone flights before "working" 32ish tagged off areas of study (we did like 10-12). By working we stomped the foliage (for more drone footage of what grew) of the plants and cut the pumpkins that were inside of the boundaries and sat them stalk up (including the rotten ones!)
The trials included a difference in planting space along with other things.
Tomorrow the teams will measure and weigh each of the cucurbita pepo varieties.
Added benefit we got to bring home some pumpkins to decorate with !!
How fun it is to be around these people ...priceless!!
But seriously y'all ...this is exactly why we don't grow pumpkins. These trial fields are huge!

Yes it's definitely full, we have had much more than this over the last couple days. I'm so grateful we were prepared for this and it was not another Helene event. We don't care about the pronunciation when storms like this give us the nightmares of our past as a community.
