Hey everyone! I’d first of all like to say thank you to everyone for trying to help find a home for Rosie! And also sorry for the long post below:
We really hated to say what we said about Rosie possibly going to auction, and as I expected I’ve gotten some flack about it. This is not something that we are just saying to get people talking or interested, it is a plea for help.
Circumstances in life have really put us between a rock and a hard place , we need to go down in our herd size - we have a toddler at home, we own a full time hydraulic shop that causes some crazy hours, a full on farm consisting of not only the horses(most of which are young and require a lot of time for training), but cows and chickens, and crops, we trim our own feet, my fiancé is the fire chief on one of the 2 volunteer departments we are on, actively involved in local 4-H, and to top it all off to end the summer I ended up with a broken leg trying to break out one of the youngsters.
Rosie has been for sale for over a year at this point and we’ve had people inquire about her here and there, but no one really serious. Now with all of this on our plate a hard decision had to be made. We’ve really been trying to push for her to end up in a loving home and it hasn’t happened yet.
When we took over the farm for Gary he made us promise that we would never get to the point where we aren’t enjoying the horses, and unfortunately we are to that point. As I said in a post a while back, we aren’t breeding Morgans for money or anything of that nature, it’s to keep us in the horses we love and to promote the breed.
The auction is truly the last place that we want to bring any of our horses. I do want to say however, not all auctions are horses being sent off to slaughter. We’ve bought and sold plenty or horses in the past at this particular auction and have come home with new acquaintances in the horse world and know where some of said horses are and how they’re being used.
To end, I want to say thank you again to those for your kind efforts regarding Rosie. Us Lippitt folks need to work together; like the breed, the breeders and people who enjoy Lippitts are becoming few and far between. So please let’s be kind to one another and lift each other up. You don’t always know what’s going on in someone’s life until you’ve walked in their shoes.
