Did you know thunderstorms hold amazing power to make plants grow better?
Our atmosphere is made up of a lot of nitrogen in its gas state, which plants cannot absorb in this form. During a thunderstorm, the lightning makes jolts of energy that are strong enough to break the nitrogen bonds. The nitrogen then combines with oxygen in the air to form nitrates. Nitrates are amazing fertilizers that help plants grow and stay healthy. As it rains, the nitrates come down with the rain and are washed into the soil in a form that plants are easily and readily able to absorb.
Not only do thunderstorms provide nitrates, they also cause barometric pressure to drop and the muggy, humid conditions that follow (which we all like to complain about π) activates microbes in the soil that help feed plant roots. They would help the plants absorb the nitrates that were just washed into the soil!! Plants and microbes have this amazing relationship that is essential and would require another post to go into detail.
So remember the next time you want to complain about a sticky, muggy, windy thunderstorm, God's design is infinitely perfect and everything has a purpose.
