Today is World MS Day where people share stories, raise awareness and campaign with everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS).
Did you know that I, Michelle, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the fall of 2023. What we thought was just a simple case of vertigo ended up being much more. After weeks of testing, being poked with needles and multiple MRI's, the diagnosis came in. I had 2 lesions on my brain. 😢
It took a few months for my body to get stabilized in order to get my first infusion. Everything seemed to be going pretty good up until last year when my health took a dive. I was sick all summer and ended up in the hospital for four days not knowing what was going on.
Finally found out that the medicine that was supposed to be helping control my MS, was actually causing all the problems. I ended up with two new lesions on my brain for a total of 4. That felt like a knife in my back but there was nothing that I can do except try something else.
I met with a new neurologist (unhappy with my previous doctor) and we have been going back-and-forth with the insurance company trying to get put on another type of medicine. What should've been a simple task ended up being 9 months of frustration.
FINALLY, I have my approval and my next infusion is scheduled in just a few short weeks. All in one day, I will be getting a new MRI, getting the infusion and meeting with my neurologist. It will be a busy day but my husband, Ryan, will be there with me to chauffeur me around 🤪
Being diagnosed with MS was not a death sentence. It was just a minor setback but I am not letting it control me. I still go out and milk the girls, take care of the other cows, the pigs, the chickens, the donkeys and the ducks.
Don't get me wrong, I do have those days where I have to listen to my body and when it's time to rest, I rest. But I will be right back at it as soon as I am recharged and ready to go.
So that is my story. I have to admit, I would not be able to do what I love without the help of my husband. He is my rockstar!
My family has been amazing through this all. I can always count on them if there is something I need or even someone to talk or even cry to. I wish they all lived closer but I am hopeful it will be in due time. 😉
Lastly, I have to thank God for all that he has given. Even though I have been given this diagnosis, I have been blessed with an amazing husband, two beautiful children, an amazing family, and wonderful friends. This is the life!
Live life to the fullest and keep farming!
