As the season went on this year, I purposed to dry as many flowers as I could. They’re perfect for the winter season when there isn’t much growing. We have a few mini 3 inch wreaths and a 14 inch dried limelight hydrangea. The minis are my favorites 😍 and would be perfect hanging in a little girls room! Check out our stories for close up photos and how to order.

A tub of daffodils! We needed more space for ranunculus so we dug these up and they had multiplied since last year. We planted these today in their new home and added another 150 🤪. Spring is going to be beautiful!

Since spring is on my mind-I love these classic black and white anemones🖤🤍. This year we will be growing these, a pastel blend, blue, and bordeaux anemones. Fun fact: they close up at night (similar to the photo) and reopen as the sun emerges.

If you live in the state of Alabama, you know what today is-the Iron Bowl. I’m an Alabama graduate so I cheer for the Tide, but we’ve really enjoyed watching Cadillac Williams coach Auburn.

JUST FOR FUN: who are you cheering on today?

The sunset was beautiful tonight ❤️. Watching how the colors shift and change as the sun goes down is one of my favorite things to do. It comes a bit earlier these days, but I really try not to miss it. Nature in any form can be beautiful if we’ll take the time to stop and observe.

Are you team decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving 🦃 or after Thanksgiving 🎄? Or not at all?

Truth be told, we are a ‘little’ minimalist around here on decorating, but I do love a pretty wreath on my door! It doesn’t hurt that they smell amazing either. This is one of my favorites from last year and we’ll be making them again soon for local delivery in Cullman, AL. Get excited-it’s wreath season!

Cover crop is coming in great! To borrow some wisdom from a friend, a seed is only as good as the environment it grows in. We endeavor to give whatever we plant the healthiest environment possible and cover cropping areas helps us with that. It ensures that the soil isn’t left bare over the winter and will help with w**d suppression too.

What we do in the fall lays the groundwork for what blooms in spring. Once our tulips arrive, we will dig 6” deep trenches to nestle them in the ground over winter. They’re frost hardy so we won’t worry about them too much until the buds start to emerge in spring. What are your questions about tulips?

I love posting pretty flower pictures, but for all the dahlias that we have shown this year-this is what was growing underneath the soil. Digging dahlia tubers is pretty rewarding because those ‘potato’ looking tubers can each become new plants next year (if they have eyes). All of the tubers are dug and I’ll finish washing them up in the morning for storage. It is one of the dirtiest jobs, but we’ve had beautiful weather to get it done.

It’s been a bit since we have introduced ourselves and there are plenty of new faces around. We’re Matt and Stephanie-plus our sweet pups 🐶. We own and operate Thrive Flower Farm in Cullman, AL. Frost this morning marks the completion of our 2nd season.

All of this started with the purchase of a small tiller (that we still use) and a 20ft x 20ft section of our yard in 2019. There’s way more to the story, but it’s been exciting to see what it has grown into. Growing cut flowers has been an adventure for us.

We’re currently selling specialty tulip bulbs (if you live in Cullman, AL) and we will be offering spring flower subscriptions soon. Make sure you’re on the e-mail list (first dibs 😉).

Flowers are such an integral part of the big moments of our lives. They bring joy in both the celebrations and the difficult situations in life we go through. It’s an honor to be entrusted with those moments and we’re forever thankful you’re joining with us in this journey.

One season ends so another can begin. I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. As we begin to dig our dahlia tubers and store them away until spring, we’ll also prepare to plant tulip bulbs, anemones, and ranunculus. Planting in the fall is such a beautiful thing because it gives me something to look forward to over winter. Our bulbs should be on their way soon and we have some available to order if you would like to plant your own.

Here’s the details on our raised beds: We used cedar fence pickets to make 4ftx2ft beds. Cardboard (without the shiny coating or packing tape) would make a great w**d barrier if you’re looking for a way to keep w**ds at bay.
