🐴Farm update:
Added a couple new friends to the farm. The bantam version of a breed I owned a few years ago, the salmon faverolles chicken. Will slowly hatch and grow the flock. Hatching eggs won't be available until 2026.
🐝New Endeavors:
Focusing a good bit of my time and attention on maintaining good habitats for native bee species. I plan to post many MANY updates as I move along this journey. I had already started this somewhat at Moon Hollow with the carpenter bee population we have, but I want to expand to other types of bees. It will be a learning process and I'm excited to dive in
🌲Treeeeees:
I've decided to focus on American black walnut(since we have so many already) & also some type of evergreen though I haven't landed on the exact type, still deciding what fits best with our property. Also, may add a few more plum trees.
🍏Fruit:
The mulberry tree is FULL of berries. The wine berry and blackberry bushes are overflowing with blooms. Our peach tree is full. Hoping our apple trees are the same later this fall. Will update on persimmons at a later date:)
🥀Roses and mint are going crazy! I have rose petals in apricot oil and some mint leaves in olive oil. I plan on making lip balms in a few weeks😍
Once my jewelweed patch is ready I'll be making more Rescue Salve. This one is great for itchy skin, bug bites, and poison ivy.
I will also make some more yarrow salve in the coming weeks.
🍃Blackberry Tea Cottage Update:
Tea wise, I am changing things up this year. I have been working on some smokable herb blends for a family member and plan to sell the left overs. They will be packaged in tins, (not by weight as tea usually is.) Tea Blends will be smokable OR drinkable🥰
Mullien, lemon balm, mints, marshmallow, & a few others will be the star components in these blends.
I also have a limited quantity of matcha made from my own mulberry tree leaves. If I decide to sell any, it will be listed here only(not available on etsy.)
And the most fun update of all:
