Me, Savannah Smith & Maddie Smith had a great time this weekend networking with Virginia Young Farmers! Farm Bureau always puts on an awesome event and this year District 12 in Tappahannock county hosted us for The Young Farmers Summer Expo.

We started off at Essex Highschool to board our bus for the farm tours. We decided to tour Cowart Seafood, Helena Chemical and Healthy Harvest food bank.

Call me naive but I did not realize they breed oysters to harvest nearly year round. They still shuck all of them by hand and another fun fact their biggest purchaser is the state of Iowa.

Thank you to all of the local farmers who support the healthy harvest food bank who plant and harvest fresh produce for them every year. It is amazing how big of a pillar farmers are to our communities and how many families they help feed.

I also want to thank all of the staff, volunteers and farmers who help put on these events. I left with a wealth of knowledge, new friends and a pesticide applicator certification.

No matter how many times we see this view, it never gets old. It always takes us back to why our grandfather chose this land so many years ago.

To him, this place wasnโ€™t just land it was peace, security, and something meaningful to pass down to his family for generations. Out here, life slows down a little, and the things that matter most become clear.

Over the years, this land has given our family so many opportunities, memories and friendships weโ€™ll always be thankful for. We truly appreciate all of the people who have been part of this journey with us.

Thereโ€™s something special about a farm that can bring together grandparents, parents, kids, and friends alike and we donโ€™t take that for granted.

I encourage folks who are able to invest in land and watch the memories unfold. It is such a blessing to farm this land and to produce cattle that will make an impact for generations to come.
