TLDR: Does anybody have leads on chicken and waterfowl savvy livestock guardian dogs?

Unfortunately the yearly “tradition” of losing chickens to raccoons has started. Their new trick this year is busting into the coop at night instead of just picking them off during the day. We have lost 4 in two days and they were all favorites. Needless to say, we are devastated and trying to plan out new ways to keep the birds safe. So far the best long term solution seems to be investing in fencing around the birds’ yards/runs and a livestock dog. If anybody has any suggestions on breeds that are specifically good with poultry, or even availability of LGDs please let me know.

Today has been a rough one...we have 6 little orphan cremes we are hoping will make it through. We checked them all yesterday night and everyone seemed fine. This morning momma had passed 😔 we're not sure what happened but are leaning towards heart attack. These guys are just shy of 4 weeks so still pretty early to be away from mom. But we're gonna do our best for them 💖 I'm sorry little ones

There are 15 rabbit breeds on The Livestock Conservancy’s Conservation Priority List, several of which were developed in the United States. All heritage breed rabbits are genetically valuable with unique, desirable traits and it takes the hard work of dedicated breeders to ensure the survival of these breeds for the future!

It has been a rough winter for our livestock this year. Unfortunately we had not only bunny losses but chicken losses too. Mostly my pure silkies (I have 3 mixes left). They’ve done great in winters past so I don’t know why this year was so different.

That said, I am happy to announce we once again have pure silkies on the farm thanks to one of our sister farms, Momma Dragon's Homestead. There are 9 white and 1 pretty little splash. Plus a pretty half silkie hen that is the daughter of our sweet (former) silkie roo Bo and one of our Americauna hens lol.
