Today, we remember the 162nd anniversary of the City Point Explosion, one of the largest explosions of the Civil War.

That morning, a Confederate agent named John Maxwell hid a bomb known as a horological torpedo inside a box that looked like it held candles. The box was placed on an ammunition barge.

When the bomb exploded, it destroyed much of the wharf, damaged nearby buildings, and killed and injured hundreds of people. Debris flew across the area and even reached Grant's headquarters.

Despite the devastation, the work at City Point did not stop. Workers cleared the wreckage, repaired the damaged docks, and rapidly got supplies moving again. Their efforts helped keep the Union Army supplied during the Siege of Petersburg and showed how important City Point was to the war effort.

Each year, the anniversary of the City Point Explosion gives us a chance to remember the people whose lives were changed by that day. It also reminds us that behind every event were soldiers, workers, sailors, doctors, families, and others whose daily work shaped the course of the Civil War.

Today, City Point is a place to learn, reflect, and remember. As you walk the grounds, you can stand where this historic event took place and think about the people who lived and worked here more than 160 years ago.

Have you visited City Point? Share your favorite memory or tell us what you learned during your visit.

Hi everyone! 🌺

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

My name is Tiffany, and I'm the owner of Sound to Shore Travel Co.

If you know me, you know I've always loved traveling. Whether it's watching the ocean waves, exploring a new destination, camping with my family, or setting sail on a cruise, I've always believed that some of life's best memories are made when we step away from our everyday routines.

That love of travel inspired me to become a travel advisor.

I know planning a vacation can feel overwhelming. There are so many choices, details, and questions. That's why I started Sound to Shore Travel Co. to help take the stress out of planning so you can focus on making memories with the people you love.

When I'm not planning vacations, I'm spending time with my family, dreaming about my next cruise, or learning everything I can about destinations and travel so I can better serve my clients.

Starting this business has been both exciting and a little scary, but I'm so thankful for everyone who has supported me along the way. Every like, comment, share, referral, and booking means more to me than you know.

Whether you're planning your first cruise, a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or just looking for ideas for your next adventure, I'd love the opportunity to help.

Thank you for being here and supporting my small business. I can't wait to help you Explore Beyond the Horizon. 🌊✈️

I'd love to hear from you! What's one destination that's on your travel bucket list? 🌴
