Harvest is underway here and, as usual, we find ourselves wondering where the summer went. Soon we'll be moving on to combining corn and will start making corn stalk bales for bedding. We have a short break in lambing groups now but will start back with a group due on November 1. Wishing everyone a safe harvest season.

Our May lambing group came and went in a flash. The short video was taken a few weeks ago of some of our May lambs. The kids finished school and dove right into ballgames and fair projects. The kids are always excited for the fair to come, and are ready to show their projects and catch up with their "fair friends".
In the sheep barns we currently have rams in breeding a group for November lambing. We have sorted and moved our March lambs, started hauling manure again, and are preparing for our July group to start on the 1st.
We will be lambing back to back this summer with a group in July and August. We won't be having a September group this year, but will be back at it in November for a late fall group.
There's never a shortage of jobs to be done, but this is our favorite time of year. Having the kids home for the summer fuels the fire to keep pursuing the dream, and hopefully someday, they'll be doing the same.

We changed our lambing barn layout for this group of ewe lambs so we thought we would share a video to those interested. We choose to try this way just to make locking up ewe lambs a little easier. We started with a group of 170 ewe lambs that started march 1st and we have about 25 left to lamb.

About Us

We are Kyle and Carrie Hurley and we own and operate Hurley Polypay Sheep Farm. Kyle grew up on a farm raising grain, cattle, and a few sheep. Carrie grew up on a farm raising grain and cattle. In 2013, we got married, and, later that year, decided to invest into raising sheep. Since then, we have focused on improving the sheep we raise and investing into facilities to make raising sheep less labor intensive and profitable. We find the Polypay breed to stand out among the rest with their diversity for prolificacy and meat production. We hope to improve the knowledge and production of the sheep industry by supplying top breeding stock to other commercial sheep producers.
