It’s opening day for Up River Oysters, and Earth Day! Did you know, we do not use any machinery for growing or harvesting our oysters? We do it all by hand, the only engine is a small outboard engine on our boat. We do not use high power sprayers, mechanical turning sorters, none of it! We do our best to keep our impact on the environment to a minimum, and our farm provides a habitat for native creatures and plant growth.

Only one person touches the oysters from the time they are smaller than a penny until the time they are ready for harvest. They are handled gently, grown organically in Maine’s cold waters with minimal handling, and the result is a scrumptious cocktail oyster that looks and tastes like the sea. Small family farming is our goal, and we are excited to begin another year growing.

Last day on the farm for the 2021 season! Our family would love to thank everyone for another great year, the sixth season for Up River Oysters and Barrett’s 22nd year growing oysters. We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! We look forward to seeing you all again in Spring 2022.

Happy National Oyster Day from The Lyndes! 🦪 Here’s a throwback photo of two of our favorite oyster shuckers at a wedding we helped cater in York in September of 2018.

Shucking our oysters at events and meeting others who enjoy oysters as much as we do is incredibly rewarding, and as everything we do at Up River Oysters, we do it as a family!
