Let’s talk about Duck eggs! I get asked a lot about how they compare to chicken eggs. When I first got ducks, for some reason, I didn’t want to eat the eggs. It was like I was afraid. I’d use them in baked goods but never eat them on their own. As my duck flock grew, I started to have no choice, we were getting WAY more duck eggs than chicken eggs. And guess what?! They are amazing. I can hardly taste a difference and the kids never even notice. I personally think duck eggs taste more “eggy” but not enough of a difference to be a bad thing. So here are some facts about duck eggs...
1- They are way bigger! About double the size of an average chicken egg.
2- Duck eggs are more nutritious. It’s higher in good cholesterol, B12, iron, and vitamin D.
3- Duck eggs have more egg white, making baked goods, such as cakes and muffins, more fluffy!
4- Ducks are easy keepers. They love to forage and don’t rely on grain as much. Making their eggs slightly more “natural/free range” than a chicken egg.
5- Ducks are known to lay year around. They don’t take as long of a break in the winter. So that means I will have Duck eggs year round! 🦆🦆
Have you ever tried Duck eggs? What do you think?
