That escalated quickly. Three does in labor and delivering simultaneously. All Bert kids. Two big bucks and an afterthought of a doe, weighing in at 2 lb., 4 oz., for Star Child. I don't expect the doe to make it, but we're trying. Two bucks with ears and an ear story (I'll elaborate in another post) for Writer's Tears (a clue: Writer's Tears has gopher ears). Two does with ears for Sonnet. You kinda bummed me out, Azarro.

First-freshening two-year-olds, Writer's Tears (Patrick), Shenanigans (Music), Star Child (Noir), and Sonnet (Noir), are close to kidding. That will leave Should Be Loved (Music), who won't be far behind. All exposed to both Azarro and Bert.

I have four does who appear open at this time (11-y.o. Spark, her 6-y.o. daughter, Midnight Spark, a 2-y.o., and a yearling), but they might surprise me later in the summer.

😁 Soliloquy x Bert. The coolest thing about this 50% purebred LaMancha, 50% commercial Boer isn't his ears...it's his wattles. Why? Because neither of his parents have them. I'm planning to keep one Rubio x LM buck, and one Bert x LM buck, to cross on juniors (I'm afraid to breed first fresheners to Rubio, who is massive). This is an awfully late kid, but I kinda want to keep him. (My meat goat project is going to end up being 42 wethers I rent out as w**d eaters. There's nothing cuter. 👀)

Twin bucks for Natalie. Exactly the color I ordered, but the wrong s*x. 😕 She does have four daughters in our herd, and three granddaughters, so I guess we were due a buck year.

We'll breed her to Van Gogh this fall (yes, we have a buck named Van Gogh 😆). Her first-freshening 2-y.o. daughter, Love, is due later this month, exposed to both Azarro and Bert (they'll be Bert kids, almost certainly).

Pictured, Lilith, our "freemartin". Alpine x LaMancha. She moved to the kidding pen today. Also exposed to both Azarro and Bert. She was in with Azarro for five cycles without settling...these are Bert kids. 🙄 Hey, maybe we'll get ears.

Lilith went to the State Fair in 2024 and 2025. If we go again (we probably won't), she's the doe we would take.

The end is in sight. Twin bucks for Bert overnight, buck/doe twins for Rubio this morning, and our only mini LaManchas (reserved). One more doe bred to Rubio looking close. (And it's the one I'm most excited about.)

We still have a handful of purebred LM first-freshening does exposed to both Azarro and Bert due this month. Bert is definitely winning. I'll be surprised if we get any more Azarro kids this year. So much fun!

We will be weaning our March dam-raised kids soon, and will have some more milkers available. They will join the milk string for a month or so before we dry them off. Ask if you're looking.
