From Kay Diamond's post: Share something funny, reminis stories of your time with Steve ๐ prayers for the Diamond Famiy.
I donโt know where to begin.
My brother, Steve Diamond, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January 2024. We prayed he would reach remission and become strong enough for CAR-T treatment, which we hoped might help keep his cancer under control. But after trying many chemotherapy options, it has become clear that they havenโt worked, and his doctors have recommended hospice.
Itโs heartbreaking to watch someone you loveโsomeone who wants so much to liveโface the knowledge that his time here may be limited. There are still so many things he wants to do, people he wants to see, and conversations he hopes to have. I wish time were on his side.
Many people know Steve as a โhorse whisperer.โ We grew up riding, and Steve went on to become a successful Arabian horse trainer and breeder. As children, one of our favorite treats was waiting for the Arabian Horse World magazine to arrive. We would pore over the beautiful horses, study their bloodlines, and talk about what we loved about each one.
Steve became a remarkable source of knowledge about Arabian horses and their bloodlines. His expertise was so respected that sheikhs invited him to Egypt to help refine the bloodlines of their herds. Along the way, he made many dear friends. He often spoke fondly of Patrick Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi. It was heartbreaking for Steve when Buddy passed, and it meant so much to him to have Lisa to share memories, conversations, and their love for Buddy with.
Judith Forbes was another important influence in Steveโs life, and he had the opportunity to train at Ansata, a world-renowned farm that was home to many of the greats of the Egyptian Arabian horse world.
But our earliest influence was Glenloch Farms and Tom McNair. When we were young, we traveled to Houston and rode all over the farm to see the incredible horses there, including Morafic and Sakr. One horse in particular, Al Nimr, became part of our familyโs story. He had been gifted to President Lyndon B. Johnson by the Marshall family at his inauguration. I still remember the funny story of how Glenloch was able to bring him backโand how he eventually came to live with us in Oklahoma.
Steve has always had a deep love for horses and animals, and an extraordinary understanding of them. As his sister, Iโve always admired the way he followed his passion.
If you know Steve, would you please reach out and share a fond memory, a funny story, or a special moment you had with him? I hope hearing your stories will remind him how many lives he has touched, whether you were part of his life for a little while or a long time.
Please take a moment to send him a note, share a laugh, or tell him what he has meant to you. I hope these memories will stay with himโand with all of usโforever.
