We’ve heard the concerns about expiration dates, and we want to take a moment to explain how food rescue actually works.

There is a lot of misunderstanding around food dates. “Best By,” “Best Before,” and similar dates are generally about quality, not automatically a food-safety expiration date. Different products and manufacturers use dates differently, which is why we take the time to carefully evaluate what we rescue.

For 24 years, Esh’s has fine-tuned our food rescue process. We have learned how to evaluate products based on condition, packaging, storage, and the type of product—not simply a date printed on a package. Our goal is to deliver quality without compromise, and we stand behind that with our return policy.

About 30% of the products we rescue come from partially defective shipments—for example, products that may have experienced damage during shipment to a warehouse, packaging issues, overstock, or other circumstances that prevent them from being sold through traditional grocery channels. These products can still be perfectly good and valuable to our customers.

We absolutely encourage you to check the dates and condition of the products you purchase and to ask our team if you ever have a question. If you purchase something you're not satisfied with, please bring it back—we stand behind our products.

Our mission for 24 years has been simple: rescue good food, reduce waste, and make quality food more affordable for our community.
