FishEye's Aqaucultured Yellowtail Snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus) is the newest addition to our Aquacultured Display Collection!!!
Yellowtail Snapper are recognizable by the bright yellow stripe running from the tip of their snout to their bright yellow, and deeply forked tail fin. They are most commonly found schooling mid-water over reefs and shipwrecks off the coast of southern Florida, Bahamas, and throughout the Caribbean. This species can reach a maximum length of 33" and prefer a lot of open room to swim with a complementing structure for shelter. For this reason, we recommend this species be considered for zoos, attraction aquariums, and large displays only.

This is the first time that we've had the pleasure of working with this species and they are awesome! Golden Trevally (Gnathanodon speciosus) are in the Jack family and can be found on reefs and lagoons from the Indo-Pacific to the eastern Pacific. These fish are being raised for a public aquarium where they will have plenty of room to swim...they're going to need it, because eventually these fish will grow to 47" (1.2m)!!!

A rising tide lifts all boats! Rising Tide Conservation fosters connections between public aquariums and marine aquaculture research labs, which has led to the successful aquaculture of species like French grunt (Haemulon flavolineatum) and green chromis (Chromis viridis). Additionally, these connections are an important tool for teasing apart the difficulties of culturing pelagic larvae and understanding how to overcome them. https://www.risingtideconservation.org/french-grunt/

Excitement can no longer be contained as we have to share some preliminary results of something new!!!! We are collaborating with University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center and Rising Tide Conservation in an effort to make captive bred Rooster Hogfish (Lachnolaimus maximus) a reality! We are currently running trials for commercial production at our farm in Dade City, FL and like any proud ‘parent’ we can’t put the camera down!!! This video shows a baby rooster hogfish at only 15 days old, and is already displaying “structural awareness”, which is a huge step for this little one!
