I couldn’t resist and we will have one small hatch before our son arrives. Should start hatching March 1st. These chicks won’t follow my ā€˜price scale’ as they will be mystery babies! We haven’t gotten pens set up yet to seperate the color pens, so all will be bantam Cochin 100% or 75% (I have set some gorgeous speckled eggs I suspect is being laid by a 50-50 cross, and since all roos are 100% Cochin then their offspring would be 75% Cochin!)
All roos bantam Cochin, hens are bantam Cochin or bantam Cochin x (one for sure out of a speckled Sussex. One I believe to be out of silver laced Wyandotte hen.) Only bantam/small eggs in the bator this go anyhow šŸ˜‰
Black mottled and calico will be the most expected out of this, possibility for some blue or splash genes as well

We will be unlikely to have any more hatches for a while beyond this with our baby due in April. We will be getting pens ordered and set up to seperate out the color groups so we can have cleaner lines to hatch for everyone 😁

Horses had some fun frolicking in the cold yesterday, did have to pull Levi in and blanket him as he had somehow gotten wet, which is no good with the temps! All the horses had hay for the night, and the flock had deep beds. I moved the turken pair into a more enclosed coop (hasn’t had a run attached yet, so they can’t stay. But perfect to get them bundled up from the cold!) Everyone is well today šŸ’– prayers for those in areas where they are still snowed in, and majorly for those still struggling and stranded in the aftermath of hurricane helene.
