Landers Lean Meats Locally raised beef, pork, chickens, and eggs. Tom is a second generation graduate of the Mizzou School of Agriculture.

He uses these skills to produce and market our farm raised meats. Becky is a graduate from the Mizzou Home Economics Education Department. She uses her expertise in the areas of nutrition and food preparation to promote our family business.

Oops! I forgot to close the hog houses before dark today. They have been open continuous since sometime in May and today we closed them up, maybe for the winter. With the forecast for the next 48 hours, the pigs will appreciate us, in the dark, closing their back doors. And it was 93 degrees on Tuesday! We will see y’all at Farmers Market of the Ozarks this Saturday. Bring your coolers and stock up. We will be there one more after this Saturday!

Next week, we are sending grass finished beefs to the locker. Most are already reserved for our bulk sales, but a little is still available and more go in up in the winter. If you’re looking for grass fed beef, always ask if they are grass FINISHED. All beef is grass fed to start with, but only a few are grass finished, never fed any grain. If you need grass finished beef, let us help you.

Thanks to everyone who saw us at market today and purchased our beef, pork and eggs. We emptied our refrigerators this morning and came home with TWO dozen eggs! And yes, we had a bunch of eggs at market today. We will be at market two more times this month before we pull out for Winter. Bring a cooler and stock up! Thanks again!

Well I’ve been greatly ignored lately! Yes, we still have pigs on the farm and pork in the freezers. We will have several pork items on sale at Farmers Market of the Ozarks tomorrow. Come by market Saturday from 8-1 and see what specials we have. Think pulled pork. We will also have grass finished beef and pastured eggs, LOTS of eggs. See y’all soon!

Hmmm…. There must be a story here. While I was grilling tonight, I spotted this girl on top of the eggmobile. She decided at dusk that roosting out where the owl could see her from a quarter of a mile away might not end well. We will be at Farmers Market of the Ozarks this Saturday with beef, pork and eggs. The pullets can be quite entertaining! The heifers come by to visit the chickens after getting their fill of water at the pond. It’s going-up-time on day number two. We tried something new with these rookies; hog panels tied to the house to keep the girls from getting underneath the floor. The pullets want to get out of the open for the night and the panels are really helping! I’m not sure what that says for out witting a flock of chickens!

Hey, play freebird! Anyone from the 70’s remember this line? We turned out the pullets today. They were thrilled! They even went back in at dusk, sort of. With a little “encouragement “ they went in. It should improve every day. And they have to learn to use the nest boxes. I’m sure I will be picking up eggs off the ground for a while!

We’ve had chicken graduation on the farm! We loaded out the old hens Friday night for a Saturday morning auction and parked the rookie pullets into the eggmobile yesterday evening. We will feed and water them in the house for a couple of days, then turn them out. That’s when we start evening going back in training. Can’t say I look forward to that, since it takes a few days to get them trained for getting indoors before the evil owl shows up. They should have a great number of eggs for market this Saturday. See y’all then!

Almost everyone dislikes change. So do chickens. I threw in an ear of corn today. It might as well been a Martian. They stood there talking about it while waiting for one of the girls to be a martyr and try it before it eats them. We are delivering the old hens to buyers tomorrow and won’t be at market. We will see you at market next Saturday.
