Encina is a neighborhood gem in Dallas's Bishop Arts District, created by Chef Matt Balke and Corey McCombs. Named after the original designation of Uvalde, Texas—Matt's hometown—we bring elevated comfort food to life through seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients. Since opening in October 2020, we've cultivated a "Cheers-like" atmosphere where regulars become family. Our culinary approach starts with quality-focal ingredients supported by fresh elements from local farmers. Chef Matt, a CIA graduate who trained under James Beard Award-winner Sharon Hage, creates dishes that honor simplicity and thoughtful execution. Our beverage program follows suit with approachable cocktails and a curated wine selection. Whether you're visiting for dinner, Sunday brunch, or happy hour, Encina offers a dining experience that's both familiar and exciting—like coming home to a meal prepared with love and expertise. Our Reading Wood Black brings together Rye Wh***ey, Coffee-Infused Martini & Rossi Bitters, and Sweet Vermouth for a rich, smooth, and warming sip made for the season ahead.⁠

And the name? A little Encina history. Reading Wood Black founded Encina, Texas, in 1853, the settlement that would later become Uvalde.⁠

A nod to our namesake and a very good reason to pull up a seat at the bar.
