Over the last several days, there have been multiple social media posts regarding Feathered Family Farm related to one customer's experience. Rather than continue going back and forth online, I wanted to share my side once and then move forward.
First and foremost, I have never intentionally sold a sick bird, and I never would. Feathered Family Farm is a family-run farm, and my children are homeschooled, so our farm is one of our greatest educational tools. Every day, they're learning responsibility, honesty, caring for animals, customer service, and the value of hard work. Our reputation means everything to us because this isn't just a business—it's something we're building together as a family.
If you've ever come to Feathered Family Farm, you've likely been greeted by me, my children, or sometimes our entire family. This farm is a family effort, and we genuinely care about the people who choose to support us.
I have always believed in being transparent with my customers. Like anyone who raises poultry, I know illness can occur despite our best efforts. That's exactly why, if I am experiencing any illness or concerns on my property, I communicate that openly so buyers can make an informed decision. No one is ever obligated to purchase birds from me.
Before this particular sale, I informed the buyer that I was monitoring a completely separate pen for possible respiratory symptoms. The birds she purchased did not come from that pen. Before leaving my farm, my son and I inspected the birds ourselves. When we met for the drop-off, I specifically asked the buyer to inspect each bird before completing the purchase, and she did. She was satisfied with their condition and chose to take them home.
When she later contacted me with concerns, I continued communicating with her, answered her questions, offered guidance, and did my best to help throughout the situation. As a fellow chicken owner, I know how heartbreaking it is when birds become sick or don’t make it. I would never wish that on anyone.
I also want to clarify that the veterinary paperwork that has been shared publicly does not specifically identify my birds as the source of any illness. I believe it's important that people understand that distinction.
Although I do almost all of my sales directly from my farm and was not required to do so, I voluntarily had my flock PT tested on May 26 as a good-faith measure for my customers because I believe in transparency and doing everything I reasonably can to maintain a healthy flock.
Feathered Family Farm has grown because of all of you. So many of you have come back again and again, sent your friends and family to us, and supported our little family farm from the beginning. We don't take that for granted. I will continue doing what I've always tried to do—raise quality birds, be honest with my customers, communicate openly, and treat people the way I'd want to be treated.
If you ever have a concern after purchasing from Feathered Family Farm, please reach out to me directly. I will always do my best to answer your questions, communicate openly, and, when I can, make things right. I believe that's what good customer service looks like, and it's how I intend to continue running my farm.
To everyone who has supported Feathered Family Farm, trusted us with your purchases, shared kind words, recommended us to others, and come back time and time again—thank you. Your support means more to our family than you know.
This will be my only public statement on the matter. I won't be participating in online arguments or personal attacks. My focus will remain where it has always been: caring for our animals, serving our customers, and continuing to build the kind of farm our family can be proud of.
