Planting oats and checking on the garlic: it’s been a busy few days on the farm!

Did you know? We always try to have at least one field planted in wheat or oats. Why? So we can harvest straw to use as bedding for our cows during the winter. This year the crop of choice is oats.

This last December, we lost our most senior garlic cleaner. Grandpa Lyle faithfully helped clean garlic the past three seasons at the young ages of 96, 97, and 98. He was out in the barn with us again this previous summer, and then went home to meet the Lord this winter.

Though a bit slower than his younger counterparts, he took great delight in cleaning garlic and often said it brought him back to his farming days. We’re so grateful for the time we had working alongside him and for the stories, smiles, and steady hands he shared with our family farm.

People who purchase our Elephant Garlic LOVE it roasted!

Slice the top, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil, and roast until soft and golden. The cloves turn buttery, spreadable, and perfectly mellow which is delicious on bread, steak, veggies, or mashed potatoes.

Have you tried roasting yours yet?

Use some of your stored garlic bulbs to make...
⭐ R O A S T E D G A R L I C ⭐

Recipe 👇
1) Preheat over to 400F
2) Using a sharp knife, time 1/4-1/2 inch off the top of the bulb to expose the cloves. Leave the hardneck intact if it doesn't cut easily.
3) Drizzle olive oil over the garlic.
4) Wrap individual heads of garlic in aluminum foil or parchment paper and set on a backing sheet.
*Alternatively, you can use a muffin tin and cover the whole pain with foil!
5) Roast in the over for 30-45 minutes. Start checking at the 30-minute mark. It's ready when the cloves are golden brown, caramelized, and very soft!
6) Enjoy the rich, roasted flavor! ❤️

Box of elephant garlic corms for sale! $20 for all of them (but put in a different box).

What are corms? Basically baby elephant garlic. They can be cracked and eaten like regular garlic, though quite a bit of work goes into cracking the shells. They can also be planted, and may grow into a single round clove the following harvesting season. Not all corms grow though, due to the shell.
