irst factory in Brazil, having as its main product, condensed milk. However, the name of the candy only really emerged in the 1940s, and was named after a Brazilian aeronautical brigadier candidate for presidency of Brazil, called Eduardo Gomes. MEANING OF THE NAME BRIGADEIRO
The reason behind the name of the candy is actually credited to their voters that created the slogan “vote for brigadeiro who is handsome and single.” They were given out at his party campaigns as his favorite sweet. Brigadier Eduardo Gomes did not win the elections, but despite the defeat, he became very famous among women due to being “single and cute”. And in his honor, the chocolate sweet made with condensed milk was finally baptized with the name of Brigadeiro.
