TDH Figural Paradox has been living in my head for months—the kind of beer that only comes to life after trial, error and a little brewing obsession. It’s a testament to innovation, experimentation and the science of turning good beer into great beer.
I built this beer on the last of my Mecca Grade Estate malt, with a rich base of golden, sweet Lamonta Pale Ale and doughy Shaniko White Wheat malts. Golden Naked Oats, Honey Malted Oats and a touch of carafoam round out the grist, while a hint of lactose sugar softens the edges.
For the hops, I leaned on CO₂-extracted resin to bitter, and I layered Dolcita LUPOMAX, HBC 630 and Michigan Paradigm. Doubled down in the dry hop with even more of the same plus decadent Barbe Rouge. All of it added post-fermentation at a cool 56°F (not during) for maximum hop saturation without harshness.
This beer also experiments with a water profile I’ve never tried before. The result is incredibly soft, slightly chewy and the perfect canvas for expressive hops.
And I didn’t stop there. Inspired by some heavy hitters in the industry, I introduced BrewGas terpenes. Just 5 mL of their Gelato blend for this 5-gallon batch to give the brew an “exotic blast of blueberry, grape, earthy spice and citrus.”
Yeast ties it all together. Verdant IPA was used for its juicy, fruit-forward esters.
The finished beer?
• Bright Maui Wowi
• Rich berry parfait
• Piney resin
• Citrus sorbet
Slight upfront bitterness, followed by creamy tropical fruit salad. I’m proud of this beer and excited to use what I learned here to push the rest of my brewing portfolio even further.
