And here I thought when I got home from vacation the first thing on my agenda was to send fiber off to the mill. As it turns out - one doe kidded while we were gone - a complete surprise! And Larry found the above doe/kid in the pasture yesterday morning. Looks like the buck "visited" the main pasture last February! New kids are always adorable!

Kidding time has arrived. Two does arrived yesterday. We quickly removed Jeff the Llama from the doe pen and brought the kids and mom into a separate pen. Mom seemed to reject the babies, but late last night, the two were nursing successfully. Georgie Girl and Martha were sleeping peacefully this morning. We'll keep an eye on them, making sure they are being nourished.

Larry Blair put together 5 additional pens, so we're ready! March will be a busy/exciting month on the farm.

This time of year is for knitting. Here is a project I did for my grand daughter, Annabelle when she was born. She arrived several weeks early, so I really had to hustle to get it finished. I wouldn't mind doing this blanket again (although it required about 22 oz. of cashmere - even Princess Charlotte doesn't have a cashmere blanket like this one!) The original pattern called for knitting the pink butterflies separate. Adding them to the blanket was a real pain - if doing again, I would rework the pattern to knit the pink butterflies as you go...might be just as challenging.

Bi-monthly hoof health day. Two 4-Hers have agreed to help with the goats at FernHill. They are doing a very professional job of trimming hoofs. This is a much easier approach to this chore for me. Previously I was doing this myself. These two will be coming back to do the next hoof trimming event! With 59 goats to work through, this was a daunting task. But Julie and Rayna diligently worked through the entire herd in approximately 8 hours over a two-day period.
