I grew some gooseneck gourds last year with the goal of making some ladles and bowls with. I harvested them and had them drying all year in the garage attic and sorta forgot about them. 😅

Fast forward to about a few months ago when I tried my hand and basket weaving (not a fan). After that fell through I remembered the gourds and decided I would just make a basket with the biggest one I had.

I was able to finish it up and I feel pretty good about it. There are some things I will do different on the next one but it's a pretty good first draft. I am growing Corsican gourds this year to make bowels/baskets so there will be more to come.

*the ornamental gourds inside the basket I also grew last year and will be used to make gourd rattle/shakers soon.

I added some tires to the goat playground this morning. They seem to like it so far.

To hopefully bring a big a bit of joy to your feed I wanted to share some photos from the homestead this morning.

Our flower garden got so full that the mexican sunflowers and cosmos (some that were over 10’ tall) came crashing down….BUT they are still pumping out blooms!

The gourd trellis is dying off but in the last week we have had quite a few new baby gourds show up so we will see what happens.

ALL THE LEAVES! 😅

The big garden are is looking bad at the moment but that is only because I have not torn out all of the old summer plants yet.

Harvested our late season sweet potato crop this morning. These plants were only in the ground about two months until the deer ate all the leaves forcing us to harvest.

Not the best harvest but when you add this to the 50lbs we harvested a few months ago it’s not too bad. Plus, we mainly grow sweet potatoes to add to our dogs food.

Fall Nightshade harvest.

Peppers: Shish*to, Jalapeño, Jumbo jalapeño, banana, early sweet, Habanero and Poblanos.

Tomato: Sungold, Queen of the Night and Solar Flare.

Eggplant: Small globe and Casper.

I love growing weird corn. It’s going to make some really pretty Cornmeal/Grits once I get it all harvested!
