Goat Knoll Farm Goat Knoll is our corner of paradise nestled in the hills just beyond a busy world. We sell goats, fiber, yarn and knitting kits.

Cashmere goats and Shetland sheep have roamed our hillsides for 30 years, eating brush and producing beautiful fiber.

Two nights ago, the sheep were not at the barn when I fed. It was a nice night, so I didn't worry about it. Just before dark I checked again and they were still missing - all 14 plus Patsy. We drove through their woods and pastures looking for sheep - nothing! Finally remembered that I had left their gate open to the center barn aisle (so Hamster could hunt for rats) and also left the main barn door open for a bit when I went to the house for lunch. We found the sheep! They'd gone through the barn and down the driveway to their old barn. They eagerly followed me back to the main barn.

This an AI on Facebook rant: I resent the questions and answers listed by AI on our posts. These may not be your questions and they are certainly NOT our answers! We just took down a post that had AI responses we didn't like. Just so you know, the AI answers are not Goat Knoll's answers. AI lifts some of the answer information from our online information and some of it from online information that is NOT ours. Beware! We just took down a recent post that we didn't like the AI "embellishments". We may go back to more blog postings and limit FB posts to cute goat photos...

Last night I had a discussion with Cobb while feeding him - we were doing well with our rat eradication in the poultry and just what had been his contribution in the last week? He (apparently) listened! This morning he left me remnants of 7 small rats in the barn. Wonder how I can count 7 rats since he parts them out so well? I count noses; he never eats the noses.

The last couple years we've had a severe problem with rats around our poultry. We solved the chickens' infestation by moving the chickens and disbanding the old house and yard. For the turkeys, we've finally found a solution that works! We're reluctant to use poison due to collateral damage to other animals and wildlife . We've tried shooting them with pellet guns, offering a cornbread muffin mix/soda solution, those stupid buckets that they're supposed to fall in and drown and other non-poison solutions. None were very effective. The current system - set rat traps, baited with turkey food, inside a cage with small openings at the bottom for rats to enter and keep poultry out. We re-set the traps every evening and take up the poultry food, so rats only have one choice for a meal. It's been a week and we're getting 4 - 6 rats per day!
