The goats have access to several areas - their winter pasture, the draw, behind the pond and the wild side - which is a mostly wooded 20 or so acre area. Even though the gates have been open for weeks, they don't seem to go in the wild side. I tried to lead them over there this morning - without success.

We have two goat/sheep stands that we use to facilitate animal maintenance. The first was acquired early on when we got tired of one person holding the animal while the other worked or snugging the animal up to a post/tree if work was required by one person alone. The second stand was given to us by another goat owner. We use them both. They are some of our most useful tools.

Well, I did it again. I cleaned the center aisle of the barn - in advance of visitors expected the next day. I (again) sloppily left one of the gates to the goat pen open. As usual, they took advantage and had an all-night party in the center aisle of the barn. Guess you know what I had to do early the next morning.

Meet Grant, a cashmere wether. He is our farm sitter's least favorite goat. On her last stay, she observed what she thought was a dead goat in the herd. Before she called us, she threw apples at him to make sure - and he was alive! While he plays dead, he also grows a marvelous bunch of cashmere. His 2026 fleece won Champion wether in the NWCA/CGA recent fleece competition.
