Our philosophy:
Children learn most through exploration of their environment. A multi-sensory environment rich in sights, sounds and textures, both soothing and stimulating, nurtures a child’s creativity and sense of self-worth. We achieve this environment by featuring:
*Holistic, self-directed, project-based learning
*A child and family centered approach to early learning
*A multi-age (4-8 years

) class group
*Low teacher: child ratio
*Extensive outdoor exploration in all seasons
*Farming and gardening activities
*Life skills such as knitting, cooking, and woodworking

Recognizing that each child is an individual who experiences life in a unique way; Seedschool is guided by the wisdom of a variety of educational theories and principles:
*Developmentally Appropriate Practices (NAEYC)
*Emergent Curriculum / Project Approach
*The Reggio Emilia approach
*Jean Piagetβ€˜s Cognitive Development Theory
*The theories of Maria Montessori
*The theories of Rudolph Steiner / Waldorf Education
*The teachings of Friedrich Froebel
*Relationship / Attachment based care
*The spirit of the one room schoolhouse – a classroom community of mentoring and cooperation
Our program will pursue accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

I intentionally typed, "I will talk WITH them," but the messaging app wanted to correct "talk WITH" to "talk TO." Is that correct? Is there a difference? There is. Talking TO someone implies that you are talking and they are listening. This could be purposeful and useful when imparting instructions or warnings but might also be demeaning. Talking WITH someone is collaborative and leads to more effective planning and problem solving.
While we absolutely want children to listen to us when we have something important to tell them, we should be mindful of including them in the conversation.
Is there a decision to be made? Who is going to be affected by the decision? That person is entitled to be part of the discussion.
Is there a disagreement? Who is disagreeing? They should both be part of the solution.
When we include children in conversations about things that are happening to them, we are far more likely to achieve a positive outcome for everyone involved. Try this with adults too!
Seedschool believes in child-led learning and independent decision making. That doesn't mean that the children just do whatever they want. They are guided to speak kindly, consider other people's feelings, and resolve things together with minimal adult interference.
Follow along to see this in action!

In our tinkering era...
In the beginning, these were thrifted computer keyboards. They became an expression of curiosity and dexterity with a healthy dose of energy release. Children are naturally curious and want to know what's inside things and how they work. It may be hard to get past the perceived wastefulness of destroying something, but there's a lot of electronic junk headed to the landfill. We're just changing its path.
After deconstruction comes reimagining and reconstruction, so we will save all the bits and pieces to see what they can become.
What else should we take apart? Follow along to see what happens next!

Fall enrollment is now open! Seedschool is a nonprofit nature school and farm school offering programs to support homeschooling families in the Dallas, TX area. ICYMI, we moved mid-year last school year to an amazing new space where we've built the most magical outdoor learning environment on 2/3 of an acre in the middle of town. We have a Farm Garden full of healthy food, a mud kitchen, fort building in the woods, a pond ecosystem, a pocket prairie, and space to run wild!
To match our new space, Seedschool is bigger and better for the 2026-2027 school year.
* We are continuing our homeschool collaboration and enrichment program - available M-Th, 9-3 with flexible scheduling.
* We are introducing Seedschool After School - 3:30 to 5:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All the magic of Seedschool, featuring tinkering, gardening, fort building, and more.
* Preparation for the State Fair of Texas livestock show happens in September and October. This is a specialized program, and spaces are limited.
* Preparation for Global Elementary Model United Nations GEMUN begins in October, culminating in the GEMUN conference in May. Model UN builds leadership and diplomacy. DM for info.
* TreeTots Occupational Therapy offers group outdoor occupational therapy at Seedschool. Contact them for info.
* Seedschool for Littles - age appropriate outdoor explorations for ages 0-3 happens every 3rd Friday morning 9:30 to 11:00.
* We will host seasonal workshops for adults and families on foraging, nutrition, permaculture, and much more.
The enrollment process begins with a school visit and a conversation to determine if Seedschool and your family are a good fit for each other. DM or email [email protected] to schedule your visit. We can't wait to meet you!

Noticing a mason jar left behind on a wooden bench under the shade conjures thoughts of relaxing on the porch with lemonade, greeting neighbors passing by, watching mile high sunflowers swaying in the breeze.
