We'll be back at the South Lansing Farmers Market today from 3-7! It's located on the corner of MLK and Jolly, in the parking lot of the Soldans/Feeders.

Today's bread menu: white, Asiago cheese, potato, potato with garlic-cheddar twist, raisin, cinnamon twist, and brown sugar breakfast bread.

Bread-ish menu: petits pain au chocolat (rolls filled with semi-sweet chocolate - not terribly rich or overpoweringly sweet) and pizza rolls (an enriched dough rolled up with pepperoni and cheese, with a homemade sauce alongside).

Alas, our time for offering eggs to the community has passed - due to a critical time for our family, we have sold off all of our birds and are taking a break from the egg business. I miss those naughty girls SO much but this is the right move for our family at this time. Hopefully in the future we can once again offer free range eggs!

Thursday 6/20 is another epic farmers market in South Lansing! In honor of this week's heat wave, 1840 Homestead is doing bread with a spicy (pronounced "spice-AY"!) theme!

Think of these flavors:

- jalapenos and cheese
- hot honey
- candied jalapenos (with pickles? hmmm....)
- pepperjack cheese
- garlic and cream cheese
- sweet corn and green chilies

C'mon to South Lansing Farmers Market, on the corner of MLK and Jolly, to see how the flavors show up in bread! And while you're there, you can pick up some fresh fruits and veggies, some sweet treats, and perhaps even dinner from one of the hot food vendors that will be there.

P.S. I'll also have regular breads like white and raisin, for all y'all sissies. ;)

Come see me on Saturday 3/2 at the Southside Community Center! There's SO MUCH to see and enjoy there! I'll have freshly baked breads, jams and jellies, some eggs (the girls are still warming up to the thought of earning their keep), and maple syrup!

The last of South Lansing's Winter Artisan Farmers Markets will be Saturday, March 2, from 10-3pm, 5815 Wise Rd, Lansing, in the Southside Community Center gym. 70 talented vendors are selling delicious artisan foods, original artwork, and unique crafts. Our hot food court features Mexican, Polish, and Soul Food dinners and a la carte items. Wash it down with refreshing bottled fruit-infused teasband sea moss smoothies. Be there... or be envious of those who are :) Schmidt Community Center

So Janet the Chicken is a mom again. She sat on 2 eggs until 1 hatched, then kicked the other egg out. We incubated it for a day and that one hatched, too. Thankfully she accepted the second chick just fine!

So....farming is not for the faint of heart. Case in point: last night we discovered a baby mouse in the chicken coop and there was a tussle for rights of ownership. Big Frieda won.
