Most of you know me as the sunflower lady 🌻 or the soap lady 🧼 or as Mom to the trio of crazy girls 🤪 …
What most of you don’t know is that I am a nurse.
I graduated from nursing school in 2010 and what a journey it has been!
I’ve held many different roles and worn many different hats in the last 16 years. Ive been a nurse long enough to say that I leaned on paper charting 🤣 and was part of the EPIC transition that we all know today.
I’ve laughed with my patients, coached them, cried with them, seen them take their last breath, hugged their loved ones after they’ve passed, I survived the pandemic in the ICU where our single rooms turned to doubles, where ventilators were in short supply and so was the PPE. I walked away from my unit in the middle of the night as my patient was actively dying because at midnight that night I was no longer employed at the place where I poured 13 years of my life into, all because I chose to protect myself and my unborn baby and not get vaccinated. That decision led to new experiences and travel work out of state. That decision gave me more time with my kids and more opportunities in my career as time went on.
Today, I’m still a critical care nurse. I get to travel to local hospitals and work in different ICU’s. I truly get to work hard (when I want to) and play harder the rest of the time. And I wouldn’t have it any other way! ☺️
So here is a huge shoutout to all the amazing nurses out there keeping everyone alive.
To all the amazing mentors I have had in my career, to my coworkers who became friends who then become family, who have helped me get through some tough shifts, thank you! I am who I am today because of all of you!
Happy Nurses Week!!!
