We had a great day at the Nicholasville Farmers' Market today! Thank you everyone who came out and supported local.

This random honeybee was providing a living recommendation for my honey! She buzzed around for the latter part of the market. I'm assuming she smelled a little bit of honey that I had to wipe off the sides of the bears last night while bottling.

Come out to the Nicholasville Farmers' Market on this beautiful Saturday morning! We'll all be here until 1 PM.

My goods today range from sweet honey to the hottest peppers in the world! And of course I have the freshest eggs from the most spoiled rotten hens.

The past few days have had fabulous weather. Mild temps, relatively low humidity, a full moon, and hundreds of fireflies. ❤️

The fireflies don't show up particularly well on video, but that just makes their appearance that much more precious.

Even if you turn your volume up, you won't hear the Eastern Screech Owl trilling about. Later at night we hear a Great Horned Owl.

Take a close look!

This is one of my dear Variegated Fritillary caterpillars!!! She's all grown up. 😭

If you look closely, you'll see she's angling her abdomen to lay eggs on this patch of Common Blue Violet. People often find these violets to be garden nuisances despite being native wildflowers, and they are an important food source for several species of caterpillars (especially the Fritillary genuses).

The Regal Fritillary is an endangered species of butterfly that exclusively feeds on violets as a caterpillar, and the loss of the violets due to land usage is believed to be one of the major forces that caused the insect to become so imperiled. It may be extirpated in Kentucky. It is extirpated in most of its past distribution.

There is also a Violet Miner Bee, which forages almost exclusively on violets.

Hartman's Yellow Gooseberry is a crowd pleaser!

I've never grown this variety of cherry tomato before, but it is absolutely a keeper. They don't split like Yellow Pear and are absolutely massive. Just four tomatoes filled my outstretched hand.

This old heirloom is thought to go back to the 1830s, and was first publicly offered in the John Hartman and Daughters Seed Company out of Indianapolis, IN in the 1860s. I'm glad it's stuck around!

I will NOT be at the Nicholasville Farmers' Market tomorrow. While I have some exciting produce, the ever popular eggs, and HONEY! I have been feeling unwell. I really need a morning where I can go at a slower pace. 🙏🏼

I will return to Nicholasville NEXT WEEK.

The word "sage" makes most people think of a wise or experienced person. I think about Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it's the food holiday. Sage is also the quintessential Thanksgiving herb! I've been cutting and drying sage in preparation, and I even used some in our dinner this week.

Hot peppers will be making their way to the Nicholasville Farmers' Market this coming Saturday!

I'll have a mix of Cayenne (a personal favorite), Habanero, and Carolina Reapers. These are HOT!

Many of them are still green, but they will continue to ripen. Habaneros will turn orange, while the other two will transition to red.
