THANKSGIVEBACK mission, complete! I want to thank all of you...those of you who shared the posts, those who purchased items, those who gave money and gift cards, those who went out of your comfort zones to ask for help, and those of you who quietly pointed us in the direction of families in need of support.
We may not have helped as many families as I'd envisioned, but imagine the impact for the families who hopefully can breathe a little bit easier this Thanksgiving. I'm praying their holidays will be a little lighter, a little less stressful, and a lot more joyful. That was the goal. That, and letting them know that they matter to their community.
We love you. We see you. You matter. We're not going to let you slip through the cracks.
Yesterday was full of blessings with nearly every person I interacted with. Lots of hugs, lots of tears. Remy got to tag along with mama to help, and Colton came and gave us a hand and his time as well. (Thank you, friend!)
The lady in this picture is Pastor Boykin. There's so much I could say about her, but for now, I'll say this - if you don't know her, you should. She works tirelessly in this community, serving others. She blesses everyone she interacts with. Every single time I see her I walk away from that interaction feeling loved, seen, and blessed. She's got a way about her.
Pastor Boykin leads African Universal Church in Daphne. She runs their preschool and daycare program as well. In addition, she runs a weekly food drive for those in need, as well as a blessing box.
Our Remy was able to be a part of their preschool program, and I can't say enough good things about it. He was prayed over, loved on, fed homemade meals, celebrated, and educated, academically as well as spiritually. These people became our second family.
Pastor Boykin has a special gift of truly getting to know others, and discovering those families in our community who may not ask for help, but desperately need it. I'm so thankful that we were able to partner with her to help some of the families this year, while still meeting the needs of the families we were aware of. I'm so very thankful that we didn't have to tell anyone no.
Last night, our inbox was full of messages, not from the recipients - I never wanted it to be from "us," but signed each card from "community angels." We had messages from people who helped us help others and let us know how they were able to see firsthand how blessed and overcome with emotion these families were.
So thank you, again. Each and every one of you. I have always been an overthinker and an overfeeler. "Too emotional, too sensitive" is what I heard a lot growing up. I used to wish I didn't wear my heart on my sleeve.
As an adult, I've leaned into it and realized I can put those emotions and feelings into action, to do some good, to empower others, to make a tiny ripple effect.
Thank you, to all of you, for seeing my vision and for being the hands and feet. It truly means the world to me.
I haven't decided whether I'll do the Christmas drive this year. If anyone is interested in details or possibly heading it up or partnering with us, you're welcome to reach out to me.
For now, I hope y'all focus on enjoying every bit of Thanksgiving with your loved ones. If you don't have somewhere to go, we will always make room for you here.
