Every morning (okay, lots of mornings) starts the same way: a slow walk through the rows to see what changed overnight. Before a single tool leaves the shed or belt, long before my coffee even cools, I take a moment to observe to the rhythm of the seasons, identify changes, brush aside mulch to check the soil, see if something I thought had died is showing signs of life again.
Anyone can do this, no matter the size of the garden. And we must, to begin the lifelong process of reconnecting to what we've lost touch with. This is a part of preparedness. Frequent observational journeys back outside.
