Whether you’re stocking the freezer, grabbing something for supper, planning a party, or just wandering in because you’re hungry… we’ve got you covered! 😉

Our retail area is packed with a large selection of fresh & frozen meats, cheeses, salads, dips and plenty more. There’s a good chance you’ll find something you didn’t know you needed!

We also offer custom processing — and if you don’t have an animal of your own, no problem! We can help connect you with a local farmer who can supply an animal for processing.

Need food for a little get-together? Or feeding half the neighborhood? We do small & large catering too!

And don’t forget our staff… we’re friendly, we’re helpful, and there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get a smart ass comment or two while you’re here. 😆

❤️ You don’t build something that’s lasted more than 100 years without a whole lot of hard work.

Back in 1922, the Oechslin family opened their first butcher shop right on Main Street in downtown Darlington.

Then in 1947, Hans E. “John” Oechslin built the Avon Locker Plant we know today.

And let’s be honest… building a cement processing plant in 1947 wasn’t exactly an easy weekend project. There were no fancy machines or modern equipment to do the heavy lifting. Just a lot of concrete, hard work, long days and probably a few sore backs along the way.

But John had a vision — build a place where local farmers could bring their livestock, families could get good meat, and a family business could continue to be part of the community.

And that’s exactly what happened.

John started it. Hans E. “John” expanded. Rosemary and Bill carried it on. Diane and Roch took the reins. And in 2023, Andrew and Kelli became the next generation to keep it going.

Five generations. More than 100 years. One family business.

The building has changed. The equipment has changed. A whole lot has changed since 1922.
But the important stuff hasn’t.

We’re pretty darn proud of what John started all those years ago — and even prouder that we get to be the ones carrying it forward. ❤️

🍗 Chicken breast gets ALL the attention… but can we talk about chicken thighs for a minute?! 😂

Chicken thighs are where it’s AT. They’re juicy, flavorful, hard to mess up, and usually a little easier on the grocery budget.

Throw them in the crockpot, grill ’em, bake ’em, shred ’em… they’re pretty much up for anything.

🍔 Every day is a GREAT day for burgers!

We’ve been loving this gorgeous weather, and there’s still plenty of time to get outside and cook!

We threw some burgers on the flat top this weekend and they turned out just right. 🔥 And you can’t forget the cheese! 🧀 We’ve got plenty of varieties to pick from.

Burgers are perfect for a quick supper, grilling with the family, or making a few extra for leftovers. And there’s always more than one way to enjoy them — grill ’em, flat top ’em, pan fry ’em, or turn those leftovers into something new!

🥩🧀 EASY PARTY FOOD FROM AVON LOCKER PLANT!

Need something easy for a party, game day or a house full of hungry people? Try these Roast Beef & Mozzarella Hawaiian Roll Sliders!

You’ll need:
• 12 Hawaiian rolls
• 1 lb thinly sliced Avon beef
• 8–10 oz mozzarella
• 4 tbsp melted butter
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
• 1 tsp Italian seasoning
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• ½ tsp onion powder
• 1 tbsp Parmesan (optional)

How to make ’em:
Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half, keeping them connected. Layer on the Avon beef and mozzarella, then put the tops back on.

Mix together the melted butter, Worcestershire, Dijon, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder and Parmesan. Pour over the tops.

Cover with foil and bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 5–8 minutes, until the cheese is melty and the tops are golden.

Cut them up and watch them disappear. 😂

Perfect for a party, family get-together, football Sunday… or honestly, just because you have good beef and cheese sitting in the fridge. 😉

🍝 CROCKPOT LASAGNA = DINNER IS HANDLED.

Because some nights you want to feed your family something quick that’s not from a concession stand.

Grab some Avon Locker Plant ground beef + cheese and throw together this easy crockpot lasagna. Don’t forget the garlic or cheesy bread from the freezer section! Perfect for a busy night, and even better when everyone comes back for seconds!

🍝 CROCKPOT LASAGNA

You’ll need:
• 2 lbs ground beef
• 48–56 oz pasta sauce
• 16–24 oz cottage cheese (or half ricotta)
• 2 eggs
• 3 cups shredded cheese
• ½ cup Parmesan
• 1 tsp Italian seasoning
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• Salt & pepper
• 1 package oven-ready lasagna noodles

How to make it:

1. Brown the ground beef and drain.
2. Stir in about 2 cups of pasta sauce and seasonings.
3. Mix cottage cheese, eggs, Parmesan and 1 cup of shredded cheese.
4. Layer in the crockpot: sauce → noodles → beef → cheese mixture → mozzarella.
5. Repeat until you’ve used it all.
6. Top with sauce and plenty of cheese.
7. Cook on LOW 4½–5½ hours.
8. Let it sit 15–20 minutes before serving.

Easy, filling, family-approved and you didn’t have to stand in the kitchen all afternoon. Win-win.

Isn’t there just something about a rainy day that makes you want to throw a roast in the crockpot?! ☔️🥩

A few good options: chuck roast, arm roast, rump roast, or sirloin tip roast.

🥔 Easy Crockpot Roast

* 3–4 lb roast
* 1–2 lbs potatoes, quartered
* 4–5 carrots, chopped
* 1 onion, cut into chunks
* 1 packet onion soup mix
* 1 packet brown gravy mix
* 2 cups beef broth
* Salt, pepper & garlic powder

Throw it all in the crockpot, pour the broth over everything, and cook on LOW 8–9 hours (or HIGH 4–5 hours) until that roast is fall-apart tender. 🙌

And while you’re at it, don’t forget to grab your meat for the week! Because apparently everyone in the house needs to eat every single day and somehow you’re the one responsible for making that happen. 😂

She just isn’t getting enough attention to keep things fresh without being wasteful. So, she’s officially OFF DUTY. 😂
