September Greens Update (and photo tour from start of the month): we made a big fall planting push in late August getting a bounty of fall brassicas & quick greens tucked into the fields. A couple of notes for you >

Arugula will return mid to late September as will pac choi and radishes.

Fennel returns ~Sept 12th and should be available on and off into the fall (we have three small plantings in the ground for late season harvests).

Fall Kale & Swiss Chard are also established well and will work back into consistent rotation late September.

We will have a short cilantro gap starting in a few days as we wait for the next succession to come online; one of our current beds was discovered by rabbits and chucks.

Heaps & heaps of lettuce planted, and a few more successions started in the greenhouse for transplanting soon.

We’ll continue to harvest dandelion & sorrel in limited quantities.

and fall spinach will make a brief appearance in late September and then return for the fall later in October.

We will not have a big fall cabbage crop; though you may see a small harvest in late October. We may also sneak in some October harvests of mustard greens and broccoli Raab if time allows… and trialing a bit of escarole and radicchio for November.

Plenty of fresh & delicious harvests in the weeks & months ahead for you.

Yum.&

So far they look great in the field; just started cutting them yesterday and have yet to put them on a plate...

Summertime CSA members - reminder no distribution this week as we take a beat to catch up on fieldwork & our breath. We’ll be back in action September 8 & 11.

Happy to receive some rain last night after a dry August; looks like more is on the way for us this week; should set our fall greens up for a productive and delicious fall.

Now, to sneak in a bit of cultivation before we lose the sun for a few days…

Panisse this morning; lettuce succession number twelve has entered the chat… we’ll have young & tender Panisse heads for a few days as these size up.

They were transplanted on July 15th. We planted a bounty of lettuce in mid July, and despite a bit of deer damage early last week we should have a nice supply to round out the summer. Starfighter was most impacted, and will be limited in volume. Muir, Magenta, & Purple Fusion take a tick longer to mature so may be missing for a few days as we jump from succession number eleven to twelve.

Enjoy your salads, BLTs, & Burgers folks.

Yum.
