We probably shouldn’t quit our day jobs. Despite watching many episodes of CSI, our intrepid Feral Seniors did not catch the criminal at the inaugural Murder Mystery Trail Ride at Luna Noir Stables. We did have a fantastic time, enjoy new trail, and way overthink every clue!

Thanks to Luna Noir for a fun time!

Dressage at Blue Goose in the fall is worth the drive to Pennsylvania for the scenery alone. Elizabeth and Fireball headed up on a beautiful October Wednesday to head down centerline. Continuing to build consistency in the FEI work, Fireball rode Prix St. Georges for a 60.735% earning 2nd place in the class.

Thank you to owner Jesseanne Norton for your support. Thanks to ADM Horse Feeds and Farmer’s Cooperative Association for keeping Fireball looking and feeling his best.

Itʼs October and that means itʼs spooky season! Four teammates donned their best costumes for a “scary” trip down centerline at the October PVDA show at Schooley Mill.

Heʼs pumpkin spice and everything nice, Ray had an impressive Training 2 test with Elizabeth. Dressed in their finest pumpkin attire, the pair scored 63.621% for 3rd place in Training Level 2. They also danced through First 1 for 3rd place! The fluttering Ophelia and mom Sarah used their butterfly wings to score 62.917% in First 3, earning 2nd place! Changing costumes, Ophelia morphed from butterfly to dragon to take Maria del Carmen down centerline in her very first dressage show. The pair had an awesome trip in First 2, earning 4th place! Finally, minions Shannon and Harley had nothing despicable about their final freestyle of the season with a 62.000% and 4th place!

Thank you to PVDA for hosting!

Fort Valley held every October is the last of the Old Dominion Endurance rides for the year and sports some of the nicest trail on the east coast decorated with fall foliage, open fields, streams, and just enough climb and rock to ‘keep it OD’. We brought a full crew with Taxi, Estrella, Sheriff, and Sheda planning on riding out both days with a variety of riders and distances.

Friday morning our LD riders all started together at the front of the pack. Once we got over the first ridge it was quickly apparent that pony legs were not going to keep up with Taxi. Taxi and Jesseanne drew away in first place while the pony duo found their bubble in the front of the LD pack. We were having a lovely ride until a few miles from the climb back over the mountain Estrella lost a shoe! Luckily, we were on fire road and could stay on the grassy shoulder to keep moving out. Luck was with us again at the base of the climb. As Elizabeth wrapped Estrella’s foot our good friend Dawn and her youngster Lam caught up and graciously agreed to take Sheriff and junior Skylar on with them. The pair caught up with Jesseanne and Taxi at the vet hold and once both teams were clear, headed back out for the second loop. Meanwhile, Elizabeth and Estrella walked into hold to protect the hoof. Estrella passed vetting no problem, got her shoe back on, and headed out for the second loop.

With all our teams on trail for the second 14-mile loop, we were making up for lost time and moving up the placings. Having given up her first place to take junior Skylar back out, Jesseanne and Sky rode smart and fast to catch back up finishing in 4th and 6th place. Hot on their tail, Elizabeth and Estrella also made up for the delay with a speedy second loop coming in at lucky 13th place. Proving that our horses were more than up to the task, Sheriff the super Morgan won High Vet Score.

Saturday, we had 4 teams out in the Intro ride to enjoy the best 14 miles of trail in the state. Elizabeth back out on Estrella with Rachel up on Sheriff this time led the Intro pack at competition speed. Meanwhile, Sheda took Alissa out with Taxi and Mike aboard. All teams had a great ride, although there was a moment of uncertainty about how we were going to get Mike back off Taxi at the end…

Thank you to Rachel and Alissa for crewing when not riding. Thanks to OD for hosting. Huge thanks to Dawn for the junior es**rt!!! Shoutout to all the ride farriers who saved our booties all season putting shoes back on…

Maryland Hunter Pace Circuit fall season with the Clarity Feral Seniors (and Juniors). Have we gotten any better? NO! Has Sheda become more governable? NO! Can 2/3 of our group ever manage to look in the same direction at the same time? NO!

We had a great time out and about at the Howard County Iron Bridge Hounds, Potomac Hunt, and Carrolton Hounds hunter paces for the fall 2025 MHPC circuit. Beautiful fall weather, good friends, good-looking horses, what more could you want?

Thank you MHPC and all associated hunts for putting on fun courses and hosting our shenanigans.

October in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, must be the Mustang Memorial Endurance Ride! Every year Holly and the NJTRA crew put on a great ride, and 2025 was no different.

Clarity brought 3 teams including Taxi and Jesseanne cruising around the 50-mile ride and Sheriff and Rachel having a go at the 30-mile LD with Ray with Elizabeth. We had perfect weather for the ride. After three easy loops, Jesseanne and Taxi finished 4th in the Endurance distance against some top horses! Ray was super excited to try out his brand-new tack set from Turner Tack. He completed the first 18-mile loop but the vets and Elizabeth decided against sending him back out for more sand miles, better to protect his young legs. Rachel and Sheriff rode the first loop with Elizabeth before tagging along on the second loop with the Sawyer family to Rachel’s first LD completion!!

We were all surprised to receive personalized tumblers sporting the Mustang logo as a gift from NJTRA! Thank you to NJTRA, vets, and volunteers. Thank you teammate Brenda for crewing (in between crocheting chickens). Huge thanks to Rob and fam for letting Rachel become an honorary Sawyer for the second loop. Thank you Millie Turner and Turner Tack for Ray’s flashy teal and pink set. Thanks to ADM and FCA for keeping our horses in good nutrition.

Dressage at Devon. The Dixon Oval. The horses, the shopping, the wine.

A breeder’s dream, to see their program represented well at the most prestigious venue in the country.

With a current foal crop of three stunning bay fillies, we decided to pack up the family and head to the 50th anniversary Dressage at Devon for the Dressage Sport Horse Breed Show 2025. After a lot of bathing, braiding, packing, and praying we arrived at Devon and got set up for two days of in-hand DSHB classes. Warming us up in the Thoroughbred breed class, Mango shined (literally and figuratively) coming in 2nd with a 71.875%. Next up Pascha earned a score of 73.350% in a huge Morgan breed class. It was gratifying to see the Morgans so well represented with 9 entries and not one placing below 70%.

On to the group classes, Mango was first up represented by Ivy and Fig in Produce of Dam. Our Morgan TB sport fillies earned a very respectable 74.500%. Rounding out the day with some very tired babies, the whole group showed off for daddy Throwing Shade in the Get of Sire division. The group earned a fitting pink ribbon for 5th place with 76.750%. As the only non-warmblood groups in these very impressive classes filled with dressage bluebloods, we are absolutely thrilled with the performance of our breeding groups!!

Day two, more coffee, less sleep. Our fillies once again strutted (or pretended to be kites depending on who you asked) for the judges on the sport horse triangle. In Fillies of the Current Year, Pascha beat her prior day score with 75.925% while Fig showed her quality earning 76.300%. Finally, big sister Ivy competed in the Yearling Fillies division for 75.775%.

We love to see that our program produces offspring who excel upon the qualities of their parents. Despite being the first show for all three babies, they demonstrated the excellent temperament and sense that we breed along with correct conformation and freedom of movement. Young stock, in-utero, and stud available, please contact us for more information!

Huge thank you to Rebecca for waking up at ungodly hours, grooming, organizing, handling, and otherwise being part of the dream team. Thank you to Ivy’s owner Katie for coming on this entire adventure with us, we can’t wait to see you and Ivy succeed again and again! Thank you to the rest of Clarity’s staff for keeping the barn together while Lauren and Elizabeth were on a 48-hour sleep-deprived adventure. Thank you to Shorty for babysitting Ivy overnight. Thank you to the volunteers and staff at Dressage at Devon for a magical experience and to the judges for sharing their knowledge.

September’s annual PVDA Alzheimer’s Benefit dressage show, managed by our own Lydia Wainwright, included over 65 rides and raised $2052 for Alzheimer's research.

Contributing to the cause Skylar, Jasmine, Sarah and Katie packed up their horses to ride at Schooley Mill. First up, junior Skylar piloted Lydiaʼs super-cute pony Moe to a 2nd place finish in Intro B with a 60.938%. Next, the pair went down centerline in Training 1 for a 4th place finish. Sarah and her lovely mare Ophelia handled First 1 like pros for a 3rd place finish and a score of 61.296%. Sarah then handed the reins to Jasmine, who took Ophelia for a spin in First 2 for a 60.909% and a 3rd place ribbon. Katie and Java tackled Second 1 for a score of 61.286% and 2nd place. In Second 2, the pair had another lovely ride and earned 60.385% and another 2nd place ribbon. Congratulations to the team for a successful show!

Thank you to Lydia, Shannon, and the rest of the volunteers for a smooth show and dedication to this important cause!

“Not as rocky as OD” said Redacted who has (clearly) never ridden OD. We always love riding new trail, and we also love supporting USA Northeast Endurance, so of course when we had the opportunity to ride new trail at Rothrock Forest in State College, PA for the 2025 USA Northeast Fundraiser we had to go! We packed up teams of Jesseanne and Taxi, Elizabeth and Estrella, and finally Olivia giving it another attempt at a 50 miler with Sheriff.

Jesseanne and Taxi had a beautiful start in the lead of the pack while our two pony teams chose to walk out after the frontrunners had left. The first loop was giving OD with challenging climbs, lots of rock, beautiful scenery, and plenty of places to make time with smart riding. The second loop some miles of gravel road, but we were expecting it, so the pony crew used the time to give our book reports before looping back in with enough climb and singletrack to keep things interesting. Also keeping things interesting, Elizabeth found one of Taxi’s shoes about 4.5 miles into the second loop trail… The last loop was windy single track with no big climbs but also no real place to move out due to rock putting the 'endurance' into Endurance ride.

Jesseanne and Taxi finished the ride in 2nd place but didn’t pick up a completion due to a stone bruise from their lost shoe. Meanwhile in the back of the pack, our pony duo chugged along with a conservative ride to completions for both Elizabeth and Estrella as well as Olivia and Sheriff. Huge shoutout to Olivia for getting Sheriff his first 50-mile completion!

Thank you to teammate Alli for crewing. Thanks to the USA Northeast Endurance crew for a great ride that we hope to see again! Thanks to everyone cheering Sheriff and Olivia on making the day special for them!

Just why. I think the summer sun got to Elizabeth and Olivia when they decided to sign up for a 55-mile endurance ride followed by a 17-mile ride and tie. We spent a lot of time second guessing ourselves, talking ourselves down, talking ourselves up, and at the end of it all, having a fantastic time in the Virginia Highlands!

Of course, we encouraged others to come along for our bad ideas.

The last weekend of summer break, Clarity’s Distance Team headed to southwest Virginia for Iron Mountain Jubilee and Ride and Tie World Championships. Starting the fun on Friday, junior Olivia and Estrella rode with Elizabeth on Taxi for the 55-mile endurance ride. A lot of traffic slowed our endurance pairs down on the first loop putting them dead last by solidly 30 minutes going out from the start line. After an easy pulse down and first hold, we headed out for the longest second loop and started to make up time. On the third loop, Estrella had enough of Taxi leading and led the charge completing 13.5 miles in about 2 hours and cruising in to finish in 6th and 7th place. Naturally, she also won High Vet Score.

Meanwhile, our LD team of Katie on Jimmy, Maria del Carmen on Chip, and junior Skylar on Sheriff were taking their sweet time enjoying the scenery and showing Maria del Carmen how we do distance riding here in America. Perhaps too much smelling of the proverbial roses happened as the group ended 25 miles with many smiles but less completions.

Saturday morning and the black pony duo hit the trail again for the Ride and Tie World Championship short course. Defending their woman-woman team title, Elizabeth and Estrella teamed up with Carrie. If Elizabeth thought 55 miles the day before was going to chill Strelly out, she very much underestimated Estrella’s desire to keep their Ride and Tie record going. Determined to win, Strelly raced through the course and refused to be held back by silly things like bushes and rules. Alls well that ends well and all team members crossed finish mostly in the correct order. Olivia and superpony Sheriff made a new (turns out to be best) friend when they teamed up with Megan for the 17 mile ‘short’ course. Megan, who also loves eventing and Morgans, was a great partner for Olivia and the team made steady progress all day for a solid completion.

Thank you to the entire Iron Mountain and Ride and Tie team for a fantastic weekend in the highlands. Thank you to Jessica for crewing for us and making the best PBJs. The thought of you thinking I was dead on course kept me running after Estrella abandoned me. Thank you to Carrie and Megan for being our Ride and Tie partners! I think you are stuck with us… Thank you to ADM Equine Nutrition and FCA for 72+ miles of overflowing energy.
