DYK October is October is Bat Appreciation Month? This month celebrates their vital ecological roles, including:
• lnsect-eating bats consume massive quantities of insects nightly, saving billions of dollars in agricultural pest control.
• Pollination & Seed Dispersal: Many species act as essential pollinators for hundreds of plants and help regenerate forests through seed dispersal.

How to Celebrate and Protect Bats
• Build a Bat Box: Provide safe artificial roosting habitats in your yard. OR… you can get one ready to go Wild Roots Bloomcore Goods and made by Shady Lane Acres Mercantile 🦇 🖤
• Leave the Leaves: Many local species (like the Eastern red bat found in Michigan) use leaf litter for shelter during the winter 🍂
• Reduce Pesticides & Lighting: Minimize chemical pesticide use and turn off unnecessary outdoor night lighting to protect foraging areas.
• Get Involved: Follow conservation efforts through groups like Bat Conservation International

A rainy Sunday Funday — we stopped by Wild Roots Bloomcore Goods to drop off some new merch and picked up some neem oil to prep plants that have enjoyed being outside all summer to transition back indoors later this fall. SO many great things in the store — and how cute is this 💀 sweatshirt?!

My mom rescued these planters from someone’s garbage. They are heavy (maybe made of iron?!) and I wasn’t sure what to do with them. Shannon painted them this great blue color and I just love them. I put them in partial shade so they don’t get too hot for the plants. We also rescued the geranium in the second photo from Ace Hardware’s end of season sale for $1.79! A good trim, plenty of water and it started to bloom again. 🌺
