Who knew of apple varieties ready mid July in Michigan!?

Our unfortunate loss of half an apple tree during a storm turned into something positive! I’ve been eyeing this tree the past couple weeks thinking the apples looked so much bigger than our other trees… when cleaning up the mess I tried one. Tart, but ripe! This is a very old tree and after some research I believe it’s a Lodi apple tree. I was able to save a 5 gallon bucket worth of apples and process them into applesauce! Luckily still have lots of good looking ones on this portion of the tree too.

Refrigerator pickles recipe 👇🏼

For one quart
4-5 medium size pickling cucumbers sliced evenly

Combine 2 cups white vinegar, 1 cup water, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp pickling salt, and 1 tbsp pickling spice mix.
Bring to boil and stir to dissolve salt and sugar. Reduce heat and boil gently for 10 minutes.

In each jar place 3 tsp dill seeds, 2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp peppercorns, and two garlic gloves cut in half. Add cucumbers within 1/2 inch of the top and fill with pickling liquid leaving 1/2 inch headspace making sure the cucumbers are covered. Apply lid, let rest at room temperature for 1 hour then refrigerate for at least 2 weeks 🥒
