What a spring! We are delighted to have this warmer weather finally. Maybe we should say hopefully. The temperatures have been slightly crazy, up, down, back up, back down.

The greenhouse was exploding. Honestly we waited a smidge too long to get the tomatoes out of there, but they will be fine. We are trying something new this year. We staggered the seeding time to extend the production season. We found last year most of the slicer tomatoes were all done at the same time. Let's hope the weather cooperates with us.

On another interesting note, two groups of tomatoes were up-potted and fertilized. One was not. It is very clear which tomatoes did not receive the fertilizer. Their coloring and size are clearly lacking. We have been very pleased with Trifecta organic fertilizer. We use it for every plant that goes in the ground. We realize some of these plants look a little rough, that's how much faith we put into this fertilizer.

The gardens are coming along nicely. Beans, onions, lettuce and radishes are doing well. New raspberry plants went in this year. More will be planted this week. We're certainly excited to watch all this grow for good, fresh eating.

Happy Planting Friends!

I'm fairly confident the Farmer built me a sauna not a greenhouse. Yikes, it was hot in there. Tomatoes are enjoying it, other plants not so much. A total of 338 tomatoes are doing their thing in there. We have heard much discussion regarding the price of tomatoes this year, $4/lb or more. A couple of restaurants near us are not having them available for sandwiches. With the rising cost of food this is an easy way to cut back.

We assure you that our tomatoes will still be accessible to you for a reasonable price.
The Farmer has always said, we're not here to feed the rich, we're here to feed everyone.

Just in case I haven't said it lately, I am ready for a FRESH tomato! Haha

As I was packaging up eggs this morning, I noticed this carton had a farm label on it. So I looked up where it was located. Ohio! A small town 318 miles away. I wondered how many other farms had filled this carton with eggs. How many little bellies have the contents filled. We never know the impact we have in others lives, how far our friendships might travel or the difference we might be in someone's life. Be kind. Have compassion. Above all, be the love someone might need today. One never knows how far that will travel.

If there's one plant I must always have here on the farm, it's the Hot Lips Salvia. This little gem is not only a beautiful, airy plant, but the hummingbirds absolutely love it. Chances are you've seen it out by the farmstand. It's a low maintenance plant, which is perfect for our already hectic life. It prefers sun, but will tolerate some shade. I go as early as possible to grab my plants from Tau Gardens located on M15 in Ottisville. If you have someone in your life that enjoys watching the hummingbirds, this would make a perfect addition to their garden.

How many times do you think we touch a plant before it's in the ground? Too many times to count! Most of our seeds are started in small trays and transplanted into bigger trays or pots before their final resting place. Between the veggies and flowers, we have moved a lot of plants! This weekend, 600 flowers were transplanted with 1,000 more to go! It sounds like a lot but it goes quick, especially when you have a system down. These little Snapdragons had a late start but it won't be long before they are pushing out beautiful blooms!
Who else is ready for flower season?

They have arrived!

Such a beautiful day to welcome our smallest livestock back to the farm. They have traveled the country coming in from Georgia this morning. Two more hives joined the apiary, giving us a total of six hives. Each package of bees contains 10,000+ bees, all ready to begin their job. Can you imagine 60k bees flying all around you? Ironically the Farmer and I are both allergic to a bee sting. We've learned the art of stillness, and a quick taking of a benadryl pill can immensely help.

These little creatures are truly amazing! It's a perfect time for them to begin collecting pollen from the fruit trees, the pine trees and those beautiful dandelions.

So here's to another year of delicious honey!

I took full advantage of the beautiful weather today! And I don't mean just working out in it. I was able to sit with the goofy girls and the prehistoric creatures while I filled water troughs.

Could these fellas be any uglier? Haha These are a Bronze Heritage breed of Tom's. The Farmer bought them from a 4H kid many years ago thinking they would be dinner for us. Well here they still are, living the life of leisure. They enjoy gobbling at me when I cackle, so we hear them often.

All kidding aside, they are beautiful birds. They strut around as if they are in charge, but a small little rooster keeps them in line. Pecking order at its best.

Did you know the turkeys you buy from the store are a commercial breed designed to grow faster and bigger. They will also have more white meat than a Heritage breed. The commercial breed cannot mate, therefore must be artificially inseminated. And now you've learned something new.

Since our country will be celebrating it's 250th Birthday this year, I thought it would be fitting to grow a new variety of tomato called Independence Day. This is an early variety, typically ready by July 4th. I'm excited to see how it does, more importantly how it taste. If nothing else it's fun to try something new.

We're getting excited to see you this summer. The greenhouse is filling up quickly with plants.
