Final chick count: 7. We had 3 that made it to the final stages of development but never pipped out of their shells.
Goldilocks is an incredible mama! She successfully moved them into the big coop with the rest of the chickens. She’s kept them both safe (from predators and the other chickens) & warm while showing/leading them along. Each day we’ve watch them get more confident and roam more freely (while still staying close to mama). Tonight Goldilocks perched for the first time since becoming a mama (she has been sleeping on the ground with the chicks under her). A few chicks also perched on their own but the others stayed with her under her wings. We love watching them grow and watching God’s perfect design on display! 🤩🐣🐓

As our young layers are growing, we decided our roost needed an upgrade. Today Will & Magnolia built a new system so all the chickens now have a place to roost at night. 💤

The sun is back ☀️🤩 so yesterday the girls finished painting the rest of what has been built on the egg stand. All that’s left to do is the roof & then some final touches ☺️

The weather here has been stormy ⛈️ so we’ve had to take a break on working on the egg stand. But in the meantime, our chicks have grown so much we’ve already had to upgrade their waterer and feeder. they've also learned how to use their wings (swipe to see) ☺️

Little life update: we had officially outgrown our 1000sq ft house & purchased a new one in 2019 just a few miles down the road. While we still own our other home (the “farmhouse”), we felt like it was too difficult to keep maintaining our animals there. We got rid of all of them except our cattle which we kept until earlier this year when we sold the herd. Soon after selling the last of our farm animals we noticed we were missing them too much & our girls didn’t even remember the life they had with them. So we decided it was time to start again 🤍
