The Armstrong Conservation District has played a key part in our farm growth over the past 3 years! They have a passionate team there and are doing great things for the community! 👏

We’re excited to announce the construction of our Agricultural Education Center! 🏗️

✔️ Located at 143 Armsdale Road, Kittanning

This Center will be a dedicated space designed to be a central place where agriculture, education, community services, and innovation come together under one roof.

Agriculture touches every part of our daily lives — from the food on our tables, to the clothes we wear, to the products we use every day. This Center will help us share that story with the public while providing hands on learning opportunities for our farmers, families, students, and community partners. 🌽🧑‍🌾🐷🐮

Key components of the Center:
🔑 Internet Café — Free public internet, laptop style tablets, digital literacy classes, continuing education classes, and farm to table products from local vendors.
🔑 Tele Health Suite — A private space for rural residents to attend virtual medical appointments.
🔑 Commercial Kitchen — PA Dept. of Agriculture licensed space for farmers, growers, and entrepreneurs to create value added products, test new business ideas, and extend the shelf life of perishable products through flash freezing.
🔑 Teaching Greenhouse — A year round learning space for growing native plants, vegetables, herbs, flower arranging, seasonal workshops, and community groups — all with broadband and streaming capabilities.
🔑 Teaching Kitchen — A residential style kitchen for in person classes, recorded cooking demonstrations, and live streamed interactive programs with area senior centers.
🔑 Outdoor Classroom — A 1,300 square foot learning area for youth camps, sportsmen’s programs, outdoor food preparation demonstrations, and seasonal markets.
🔑 Community Gardens — Raised beds and accessible gardening areas for hands on learning and fresh food production.
🔑 Incubator Office Space — A flexible workspace for start ups, entrepreneurs, and partner agencies.

It’s been a long wait, but we are finally restocked on our homegrown beef, including beef sticks and jerky! 🥩 Get it while you can at Tri-County Feed!

You may have noticed our empty boxes in the freezer this year and our long waits for meat shares. We thinned our herd this past year to prepare for a new barn build. (As well as put our trust in the wrong person, but I digress.) Thanks to the USDA, we have been busy with the initial projects (a manure pad to decrease runoff and a water source/pad for each of our 8 pastures) and are finally ready to begin construction on our second barn that will be complete by the end of this year. This will allow us to separate our bred cows and calves from the rest of the herd, as well as double the size of our herd to better accommodate growing demand for freezer meat and meat shares. We look forward to adding a website for easier order pickups and share planning as our options become available.
In addition to this huge change, with our son’s first house purchase and move, we’ve decided to open our second house as a short term rental (Airbnb). Stay tuned for The Tri-County Farm Carriage House coming late this summer. 🏡
As always, we are so grateful for the continued support of this community even when our shelves are more bare than ever before. We look forward to growth over the next year and the continued supply of home grown options for this community! 🖤
