Baby boy gender reveal cake made with dye free blue buttercream. 💙

This is a long one, but I HAVE to talk about this dye free buttercream. I used one packet of ColorKitchen blue food coloring for a whole batch of buttercream and was extremely impressed with its hue and ease of use! I haven't tried any of their other colors but I'd be willing to bet they're just as great! I honestly didn't have super high hopes just because natural dyes tend to be a bit duller but this did not disappoint at all. I think the shade of blue is gorgeous! On top of that, my buttercream is meringue based which is notoriously difficult to color. The instructions for this food coloring are to add the packet to a small amount of water before adding to the buttercream. I didn't want to introduce any water into my buttercream so I dyed the egg whites first and that worked out perfectly! I will definitely be using these again!

My first sheet cake! 🩵

Threw this together *very* quickly for my nephew's Baptism, and very much winged it. 😅 I had other plans for how I would decorate it but I was so short on time that I ended up going simpler.

I definitely made some mistakes, like when I decided not to trim the top since it looked level "enough"... It wasn't. 😆 I also seriously underestimated how much buttercream I would need to decorate it and had to skip certain design elements as a result. BUT I'm still really happy with how it turned out. I learned a lot with this one and I'm grateful for family members who are willing let me try new things and experiment a bit with their cakes.

Sheet cakes are so much fun and a really nice change of pace from my regular layer cakes. I will definitely be doing more!

In honor of the first day of fall yesterday, I'm sharing my favorite fall cake from last year. The flavor profile of this one is something I still drool over-- pumpkin cake layers, caramel filling, and white chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream. It is absolutely heavenly!

My sweet boy's birthday cake! 💛🦇

Oreo cake with black cocoa buttercream. This buttercream requires NO DYE at all to achieve a super dark, black color. The cocoa powder does all the work! It won't stain your teeth and doesn't taste bitter like the dye filled frostings on grocery store cakes, so it is a great option for those wanting to avoid artificial colors.
