Épiphanie = Galette des Rois 👑
Maybe you have already tried the real French Galette des Rois, but do you really know about the tradition ?

*This golden cake make with puff pastry and filled with frangipane (a kind of almond cream) is a very traditional cake that French people share with family and friends during January.
during Roman antiquity we shared a cake that looks like the sun to celebrate the winter solstice : the slave who found a dry bean on his piece became king for one day.
After, during the Christian era we associated Galette with a pagan religious celebration : Epiphany. it symbolizes the arrival of the three wise men in Bethlehem, so the dry bean has been replaced by a terracotta or ceramic Fève representing the baby jesus. So the pagan tradition goes on : whoever finds the Fève becomes the Queen or the King, wears a paper crown and chooses a person from among the people who share the cake with him/her.*
