It’s clean out time!

This is called a bedded pack barn. All winter, while our animals are living in here, we add fresh bedding, which builds up into a “pack” of manure and wood shavings several feet deep, combining a cozy bed for cattle with a compost factory!

This compost pack is cleaned out once per year and will be spread on our fields to nourish next year’s hay crop.
