Tired of waiting for farm-fresh garlic? We are too! Thankfully, we're sending garlic scapes to market this week. Scapes are the immature seed heads from hardneck garlic varieties. Picking them not only redirects energy to the bulbs late in the growth cycle, but it gives you a tender, garlic-flavored add-in for pasta, stir fry, soups, or any other place you would normally use garlic. Skip the sad bulbs at the grocery store and get scapes at the Polson Farmers' Market (from Ploughshare Farm) and Lakeside Farmers Market (from us) this week.

Whew! We flirted with frost last night, but tomatoes, cukes, squash, and peppers seem to be alright--about as perturbed as us about having a frost warning in June. Growing veggies in Montana is not for the faint of heart!
