Wendell Berry's writing on how modern US consumer and economic choices are killing small family farms and rural communities--and his prescriptions for how to save them--were among the major reasons we made the pivot from urban, knowledge economy work to focusing on participating in the local food community in the Flathead Valley.

We made some lovely verde sauce for tacos to celebrate poblanos finally being "on" this week. If you also have a hankerin' for verde sauce or salsa, come get some of our tomatillos, jalapenos, poblanos, and myriad other peppers at this week's Polson Farmers' Market (Friday 9-1) and Lakeside Farmers Market (Saturday 9-1).

Meet the newest workhorse at Blue Blossom Hof (next to one of the old, shabby, original workhorses ;) ): the BCS 853.

This beauty of a walk-behind tractor is going to speed up bed prep, improve w**d management, help us better integrate cover crops into our rotations, and generally help us significantly scale up our growing operation next year.

Brenda from 3 MPH Ranch LLC Hot Springs Montana did a big batch of our beans in the canner. You, too can get a big batch of beans from us tomorrow at Lakeside Farmers Market. While you're there, get some fantastic beef from her as well!

We've had our challenges with tomatoes this year. The cool June gave way to a quick heat up, but we've also dealt with pests spreading disease.

Thanks to Sarah Morganne Waldrip taking good care of our plants and quickly noticing the beginning of a pest problem, the Schutter Diagnostic Lab at Montana State quickly identifying tomato spotted wilt virus from our samples, and some literal life-saving beneficial insects from Natures Good Guys , we have kept our girls alive and will have a host of beautiful, beefy heirlooms for this week's Polson Farmers' Market (Fri 9-1)and Lakeside Farmers Market (Sat. 9-1).

Each year has its challenges and new opportunities to rise to them and learn.
